So like, best case scenario he's Rob Niedermayer?

That would be a fantastic pick if we got a Niedermayer. That's his absolute ceiling IMO. More realistically he's a 50/50 guy to make the NHL as a 2nd/3rd liner.

So basically Rob Neidermayer who landed on the right side of his 50/50 shot?

Hindsight now, but of the 4 guys the Flames brought in that year (Monahan, Poirier, Petan, and Klimchuk), it looks like Klimchuk is the least regarded of them all.

Flames had a bunch of smallish prospects already in Gaudreau, Baerstchi, and Granlund, but maybe BPA should have ruled the day here, and they should have taken Petan instead of Klimchuk?

It's possible, but still a long ways to go before the judgement is out on this draft. I remember on the day everyone freaking out about Poirier and wondering why we didn't take Klimchuk at that pick and Poirier in the Klimchuk spot.

I remember thinking that on draft day, wishing we went with Petan. Although Mr.Mastordan is bang on, its way to early to judge, but I really did not like what I saw from Klimchuk at the rookie camp. I think a guy like him needs to have motor that never stops like Brendan Gallagher, and I just dont see the intensity in Morgan that he needs to have an impact.

Petan would have been nice. He was good at the WJC last year and should tear it up this year. I think I remember reading that they were very high on Madison Bowey as well

Talked to Morgan's mom today. She said he's upset but wants to just use any anger he might have against his opponents in his next games. Not angry at the coaches or hockey Canada, just upset at the situation. She said it's the first time he's ever been cut from a team but he's taking it well.

I hope this kid makes it to the NHL. Very well spoken and a hard worker.

Good. A little adversity never hurt anyone.

These guys go their whole lives being one of, if not the best player on every team they play for and then a lot of them get a huge wake up call once they get to the pro level where most of them are no longer anything special. (Sven anyone?)

Hopefully he learns from this and realizes that a spot in the NHL is also not going to be an easy get.

Bob McKenzie just said on TSN Joe Hicketts is expected to make the team.

Quite the story for him, passed over in the draft, went to Detroit's development camp, earned a NHL contract, and now will play for Canada at the WJC.

Im not confidant in Fucale back there at all. Outside of being on that dominant Halifax team 2 years ago he seems like a pretty average prospect in goal. Pretty dissapointing that he was handed a job on this team without even having to try out. Goaltending is likely to be a sore spot yet again on this team.

Sigh, I know it doesn't mean anything, but Canada dominates Russia 51 shots to 15, but lose 2-1.

I can't remember the source, but I recall when Klimchuk was drafted, they projected him as a 4th liner if he ever makes the NHL.

I personally don't have a first hand opinion on him, but that was always in the back of my mind so my expectations were never that high.

Interesting....Doubt most scouting services would have pegged him as a late first round pick if that was his projection.

It could be the opinion of one source.
It could also be that they may have said Klimchuk can play any role, whether it be first line or fourth line. I just don't think a player with his shot, power play capabilities, and skill level can project to just a fourth liner.
