They gave another assist to Brodie on the empty net. Positive it should have been Gio but oh well.

Really, really solid game by Ramo tonight. His last few starts I feel like he was scrambling a bit - this game he was cool as a cucumber. Definitely think he gets the next start.

Flames had more chances than the SOGs would probably lead you to believe - though San Jose also played very well I thought.

Loved seeing Ferland dish out the hits, Byron's dominant shift in the 4on4, Gaudreau continuing to be a wizard, and some stellar chances by Monahan and Sven (really wish they could have buried those chances though!). Couldn't ask for more on the 2nd game of a back-to-back on a California road trip.

I agree. We seem to control and cycle for a scoring chance, not just random shots. Hence our amazing shooting percentage.

I think, more specifically, teams struggle with the Flames transition game. They spend next to no time in the neutral zone and the forwards charge down ice. Whether it be a forward coming in at full speed or a tip in that, unlike years past, the forecheck can fight for, the Flames just get the puck in quick and create an attack while the defence is not set. An excellent indicator of this system, IMO, is the number of icings...I'm not sure it's true but it certainly feels like they take way more icing penalties than in years past and most seem to occur because a forward can't connect with a pass.

This is exactly what Hartley wanted when took over the position of Head Coach in Calgary...a quick strike offence. I don't remember the exact words but he wanted to Flames to hit hard and fast once they got the puck. This is the part of the game that made Bouwmeester look like a decent player in a Flames jersey for once. This is what Brodie and Giordano (especially Brodie) excel at and why the Flames are giving goalies and roaming defence nightmares...make one wrong move and the puck is in the net.

Ramo has to start on Saturday.

I think the playoffs might actually happen. I am starting to believe now.

Look at the shot charts. Outside of the third when the Sharks were throwing everything they could trying to tie it, the shots tend to be from the outside.

Giordano is probably the best defenseman in the game right now.

And Brodie might be even better!

After tonight Giordano and Brodie sit 1 and 2 in league scoring for defencemen. Just having one of them performing up to this standard would have been incredible, but for both of them to be at Norris caliber at the same time is ridiculous

Wow that was a blast. Hardly took a breath through those long scrambly stretches in the third. Great to have one of the goalies basically steal two points again. Thanks Kari Ramo!

Yeah, I agree. I could have sworn he got a piece of it as it went up the boards to Monahan.

So impressed by the Granlund Ferland Byron line.

Treliving has some really hard decisions to make in a week.

One of the more satisfying wins of the year!

Karri is pure Finn. Real ice in the veins, a quality that is awesome in a goaltender. (Finland breeds ice veins if you weren't aware). Great win!

When's the last time if ever, both members of a defensive pairing have been nominated for the norris trophy?

I'm convinced Brodie will be in that conversation by the end of the year if he keeps this up

Ferland looks like a legit nhler. He brings a physical element upfront to the team we've lacked since Iggy left. Throws his body around and has great hands. Gaudreau, Bart, Ferland, Jooris, Granlund. 5 rookies in the lineup tonight and we play a game like that. Incredible
