Eve funnier is listening to Oiler fans they honestly believe the League did it on purpose because they hate them. Yup, won 3 first overall picks in recent years in the lottery but the NHL hates them!

I can see Burke doing that. Him and Lowe don't get along to well. Lol

MacT's only been on the job for a year. Did you all expect him to be up to speed on all the GM rules when he's still failing coaching 101?

MacT: "Vladdy, you are the bold move I have been waiting for! Just sign here and you're officially an Oiler!"
Tkachev: "Sure.... may I ask though Mr. MacTavish, why aren't you wearing your glasses today?"
MacT: "They fell in my Fruit Loops this morning when I tried to drink the colored milk. Who cares! They pay me to Lead not to Read!"

Oh well they missed out on Vladdy Hockey, I guess they'll just have to sign McDavid before the season starts

Somebody up North really should get canned for this sort of thing.

But, you know that isn't going to happen . . .

Honestly, the entirety of the Oilers front office should be canned... but it will never happen. The Oilers will be a bad team until 2074 when they get a lucky bounce and make the playoffs in the last game of the season.

meh, its hard for flames fans to point fingers when Feaster's attempted signing of ROR almost cost us Monahan for nothing in return.

As has already been pointed out, the ROR situation was one without precedent and there's at least a decent chance that after discussing it with the league they would have been able to retain O'Reilly.

This situation with the Oilers and Tkachev DID have a precedent. It has happened twice already, recently.

Yeah but the Flames fired Feaster. MacT probably got a pat on the back and a "Don't worry MacDaddy. Not every bold move will be a home run. We'll get them next time." from Katz.

I think that was one of the things that ultimately led to bringing Burke in and Feaster getting canned. I would say on a failure scale, Feaster wins, but the rule that fooled Feaster was a little more vague and obscure (and new).

I can't see Calgary ever winning a 1st overall; let alone 3 in a row... I just think Bettman's head would explode. It's probably Calgary, Ottawa and the Devils as the 3 teams the least likely to get a 1st overall ever again.

It's hard to complain against the league when you win 3 number 1 picks in a row.

Finish watching the game on my iPad, watch the Gaudfather goal ~25 times, then see this. I know it's only a Tuesday, but man does it feel like a Friday!

Haha, great post. The oilers fans are torn. Who to blame? Crap management or the NHL for letting it happen.

Maybe they should wait for approval of the contract before releasing the news to the media/public.

Since this same situation has happened recently there shouldn't e any excuses for it. The outcome is the same as the ROR fiasco, ie it really doesn't affect the organization in the end.

This case it sucks for the player but who knows, maybe he just needed an audition to showcase his skills better in North America. Watch him rip it up this season in the Q and get drafted before the oiler can take him.

When have the Oilers ever waited for actual results to hype the #### out of something?

Wills makes an interesting point on the Fan 960.

Was wondering if the league actually caught that Tkchaev was inelliglbe for a contract, or if another team reported it to the league after doing their due diligence because they were interested in Tkchaev
