When doing a home Reno project, always, double your estimated budget, and double your estimated time, and quite possible move the unit of measure up one. Ie if you think it will take 2 days, it will actually take 4 weeks.

Want an instant boost to your quality of life?
Invest in expensive bed sheets. If you're a single guy, wash them regularly.
Get comfortable pillows (a mix of foam and real down pillows).
Get an expensive mattress and duvet.
Not only will it increase your sleep count, but if you're single it will attract members of the opposite sex to spend more time under the sheets.
I WISH I knew that when I was between 18 and 25.

So far I have learned that you generally get what you pay for. Spend the extra money and get a quality item, whatever it may be. Case in point, our crappy blender crapped out. We probably got it for 30 buck at walmart a couple years ago. Heck, we have gone through a blender every couple years for 8 years now. Our next one is gonna be a proffesional model, I don't care how much it costs but at least it will last.
My wife think I'm wasting money but she fails to see the overall picture. Buy once....cry once.

Until, it to, inevitably breaks.
There are some things I absolutely agree, that you get what you pay for.
Clothes, Tools, hmmm, I guess that's about it.
As far as electronics and mechanical gadgets go, so long as you aren't buying knockoffs, a reputable brand should not be much worse quality than a top of the line brand. Sure, there is a difference. but if you're spending $30 every couple years on a blender, it is likely more cost effective than buying a $300 blender that may last a few extra years, but I highly doubt it'll outlast a $30 blender 10:1. Remember, they all have the same moving parts, and you are using it for the same purpose, no different than a car, buying a $100,000 Mercedes rather than a $25,000 Honda doesn't mean that Mercedes is going to last 40 years, when the Honda only lasts 10. In fact, the Honda will probably last longer than the Mercedes.... You're paying for the name.

Nope he is correct.
You need something that has some push back. If the t/p is too soft it doesn't feel like the poop can get any purchase. My concern is that there is no cleaning happening, rather it is a redistribution of the poop.

Look after yourself first before everyone else - if you are not able to, then it will be harder for you to look after the ones you want to look after.
I love the Wayne Gretky quote "100% of the shots you don't take, don't go in"... some times you have to take measured risks...

Yes on the expensive mattress, hell no on any duvet. My g/f talked me into trying one of those out. First night I was under it I felt like I was approaching supernova. Gone the next night and bought her an electric blanket.

Once you get buying commercial appliances generally they are serviceable. If something breaks you can call the manufacturer and ask for parts. A 30 dollar blender is just thrown away. I see what you are saying but in the long run if I get even 10 worry free years and need to buy a couple parts to make it last 10 more years it should pay off in price but in also in simplicity.

Radical liberalism is every bit as bad as radical conservatism....just a different kind of awful person.

In my opinion, it's more about cost per use.
For instance, buy that "on sale shirt" for $8 and use it 2x then hated it, $4 per use.
Buy that "expensive shirt" for $30 and use it 30x, $1.00 per use.
Expensive shirt is cheaper.
OR
Buy that blender for $30, use it 50x = 0.60 per use
Blender for $300 + $30 in parts, use it 550 to be equal to above cost. Extra is pure savings, less is pure waste of money.
(NOTE: I have no damn idea how long a blender lasts. Above is illustrative purposes only relating to break even on two items)
This doesn't take into account performance, inconvenience (shipping, time and gas when driving out to grab it etc.), functions and other stuff.

You will never know true panic until you go to change a diaper, get halfway, and realize you are out of wipes.
This situation breeds the truest forms of ingenuity.
