For me, the main appeal of Nexus phones was the value.

Yep. Look at the bottom of the phone in front. The camera lens, flash and the power button are all recessed.
I'll be disappointed if the price point of the 6 is an indication of the future.

So the Nexus 5 won't go on discount then (like last year with the N4)?

Doesn't look like it, looks like it'll just be the (much) lower priced 2nd option for those that don't want the (much) bigger phone.

Was thinking I'd probably sell my OnePlus once the new Nexus came out, but now there's no chance. Not really sure what Google's thinking with that price point when there's already so much competition at that size & price

I think they knew what they were doing. In the 5" category there is far too much competition already so Google probably decided to move into a different market segment with a 6".

I was looking at upgrading my phone this fall and had heard good things about the Nexus 5 from a few friends that have one. I am also interested in ditching the subsidized phone plan this go around. However, the size and price of the new Nexus has pretty much pushed me away from their phone. The OnePlus One is looking more attractive to me every day.

Has anyone found out when those of us with a Nexus 5 can assume we will get the Android Lollipop update?

Yeah, obviously we'll wait for reviews to start rolling in but the specs certainly speak to a true premium device. If they hold up gone are the camera and battery deficiencies of past devices. The wireless charging, waterproof and quick charging all add to that as well.

You can flash it tomorrow if you want but it is still being labeled as a preview. Last report I read was two or three weeks for OTA updates.

Thanks. Just going to wait for the OTA. Everything on my Nexus 5 is still stock. Haven't even rooted it. No need to.

Looks like I've been swayed away from the Note 4, for the Nexus 6. Late November can't arrive fast enough.

I consider the Nexus 6 at $800 (for a 64 GB version) a better buy than the $900 iPhone 6 Plus.
I was so impatient I actually went to a Fido store today to inquire. I was told they will be carrying the Nexus 6. They are not sure about the 2nd generation Moto X though.

Thought we've never known hard numbers for Nexus devices it wouldn't surprise me that if the Nexus 6 is the best seller, despite the premium price tag. The N6 will actually be available in store, on contract, on day one. All major carriers will have it, it won't slowly filter in.
The Nexus 4 was primarily through Google Play and the Nexus 5 was sporadic at best in retail stores.

Had an idea!
|
I wish my carrier would get it. Would absolutely get it. Off contract, I'd rather go for the OnePlus One.
With the 2 year contracts, it isn't as bad anymore. I have no problem holding my phone for 2 years anymore and then upgrading.
