Peterson is apparently going to plead guilty to a lesser charge of misdemeanor reckless assault with a penalty of 80 hours of community service, $2000 fine and be placed on probation.

The NFL process for clearing AP to play is uncertain and it is unknown whether or not the Vikings will release him if he is re-instated by the league.

So beat a little kid and get no jail time.

So sad.

I am guessing he sits this year, and next year they test the water again. If people are indifferent he plays for the Vikings, if not, he gets cut.

Doubt the moral high ground wins this one. However, I guess with the probation he won't be laying a hand on anyone go forward (at least in near term). Even he can't be so stupid as to not know the media will be watching and waiting for his next slip, and that would seal his fate legally and professionally.

So while I am saddened there is no jail time, I think having him productive and distracted from being with his kids and the pressure of being watched all the time maybe helpful.

Disgusting decision to accept this plea deal from a disgusting human being. Overall a terrible situation.

I suspect his contract with the Vikings will be terminated. The Vikings have no choice if they don't want to lose advertsing dollars and upset the fan base.

I can't imagine he'll be suspended (not that I think he shouldn't be). He may be fined (significantly) against his 9 weeks of paid leave, but he'll be available for the Vikings or whoever else want him.

I don't see the Vikings taking him back in, but who knows. I think there will be enough of a market for Peterson that the Vikings will be able to trade him and won't have to simply cut bait. Lots of teams out there that could use a fresh-legged top 2-3 RB in the league and is willing to put up with a little noise to add some W's.

AP was a likely candidate to get cut or traded this offseason because of his contract going forward, so it'll be surprising if the Vikings bring him back now with those considerations with this mess as well. But the Vikings are 4-5 so a win this week and him playing increases as they make a push for a playoff spot. Remember the NFL doesn't care if you're a horrible person, if you're not in jail and can perform, you can have a job.

But I expect Goodell will bring down the hammer here to make up for botching Ray Rice so badly, so I see at least a 4 game suspension.

Vikings players ready to welcome back Adrian Peterson

Quote:
Several of his teammates in Minnesota weighed in Tuesday on Peterson's potential return, voicing their support for the running back to rejoin the Vikings, according to ESPN. One of those players, tight end Kyle Rudolph, spoke up about what it would mean to have Peterson back in the locker room:

"We all know the kind of person he is," tight end Kyle Rudolph said. "We've stood behind him this whole time. You'd be crazy not to welcome him back into that locker room. It would be a big pickup for this locker room being we have so many young guys. Any time you can have a veteran back in that locker room, the leader that he is in the locker room, out on the practice field, would be huge for us.

"Guys have chatted amongst each others, and I don't think there's anyone in that locker room that would need to hear from him. We all know the kind of person Adrian is, and I feel like he's proven that over his time here."
Quote:
It helps that Peterson has been in contact with the team during his absence. Before the Vikings beat the Falcons in Week 4, Peterson passed along a pregame motivational speech for head coach Mike Zimmer to give to the team. He's also given advice to rookie Jerick McKinnon, who has taken over the No. 1 running back spot while Peterson has been out.

AP has been suspended for the rest of the season without pay following a reinstatement hearing yesterday. This is a huge decision by the NFL. It is quite surprising as well because a lot of analysts and talking heads were fairly certain that AP would come off the exempt list following the hearing yesterday.

Given the reaction I have seen on the interwebz, I maybe in the minority, but GOOD.

He can still appeal. Honestly this was probably set up this was so the NFL could save face by suspending AP but then Peterson getting to play via winning the appeal.

All the major sports just set themselves up for trouble because they have vague rules and judgements that aren't consistent. Should be much easier and straight forward. They should all be putting some heavy work into this area.

Just me, but I don't think the guy should be able to play again. Giving the guy a year off may seem like a big deal to some fans, but in the grand scheme of things it's a complete joke. Assaulting a 4 year old child should be an automatic banning from the league, case closed.
