Just to share my plan for this year...
Using an US iTunes gift card on an american iTunes account you can pay the $99 USD for GCL right through Apple. It allows you to create a US based GCL account once activated through iTunes, meaning you can still sign in on any device. VPN or DNS is still required if you're in the local market, but otherwise it's great.
And you'll be avoiding Rogers all together.

And the opt-out doesn't even work, good'ole Rogers.

Ok, I thought this was straightforward, but there may be an issue.
I used NHL Game Center Live last year with a VPN to put me in the States for Canadian games that may have been blocked out.
Now with the new version, should I buy "Rogers NHL GameCenter Live" and then use the service as if I am travelling during the year? Or do I buy from NHL by ensuring my computer is connected to the VPN prior to ordering?

I'm a Roger's Wireless customer with no cable. Free Trial and we'll see if Unblock us works. I lucked out getting to try it without the money commitment to Gamecentre.

It depends on your individual country i think. Here in the UK there is a small satellite sports channel called premium sports who have bought the rights to the NHL, so they show a variety of games through the week, including HNIC, any games they were showing are blacked out.

Question for those that have had Gamecentre in the past. The link posted on the last page says you can watch full length game replays "the next day" and I'm curious what this means? I'm currently living in Australia and am wondering if this means I would be able to watch a Flames game that aired at 7pm mountain (11am my time) at 12am (4pm my time) the nexy day? Really hoping the answer is yes as I want to be able to watch all the games when I get home from work.

You'll have the option to watch highlights and the condensed version shortly after the game but I remember it taking longer than that for the full version replay to become available. I've been in the same situation down-under - it's probably a safe bet that the full replay is available later in the evening (7pm or 8pm AEST).

I thought it took 2 days for the full game to be available last year. It was at a minimum 24 hours I'm pretty sure.
Here we go, 48 hours for local games only:
Quote:
While most games are available to watch next day, blackouts remain in effect for 48-hours on all games for teams in your local market and those games that were nationally televised.
Due to local blackout rules and regulations, games broadcasts that are available to watch on television in your local market and nationally televised games are not available to watch live or within 48 hours of game completion in NHL GameCenter LIVE™.

I'm still uncertain on which signup link to use...
There's the Rogers sign up process through:
https://gamecentrelive.rogers.com/
That one costs $179
Or do I use the NHL link:
www.nhl.com/gamecenterlive/
Where this one can cost $99 with a VPN service. (and seems to be unknown in Canada for now)
With Rogers buying it up, will the NHL service still be active? or will that just be used to access archived footage?
If you sign up with Rogers, will the existing NHL GC apps on the PS3/4 and Apples devices still work? or are they just using the existing apps, and will just be re-branded?
I may have over thought this, and confused myself...

I have been watching the 11am AEST games at 4pm AEST for the past few years. Before you go to work click on the game you want to watch and a screen will appear saying something like "Team X @ Flames 9pm ET Feed currently unavalible." Then when you get home just hit refresh and the game will start over from the beginning. The only issue is that sometimes Gamecentre ignores the scores off button when refreshing so the result has been spoilt. I've learned though to cover the scores with my hand and toggle the button on and off to make them go away.

Lost
I am so so lost in the Game Center acquisition shmozzle. Up until now I have been a yearly subscriber to NHL operated production. First two months I watched in Canada on my laptop, then headed to the US to finish out the season. Was about to renew the early bird package with Rogers, only to learn that I would not be able to view games in the US with this package. I have seen info in this forum about VPN connections (which in my aged condition I know nothing about) and others that have purchased GCL through Apple. In either of the alternative case are you able to view all games other than regionally blacked out games? About the VPN hookup, how does one obtain same?

FYI.. the gamecenter link ( www.nhl.com/gamecenterlive/) not only will open without redirecting to Rogers if you are customer of Unblock-Us, you can also purchase Gamecenter LIVE from nhl.com at the $99.00 rate. I just purchased mine.

Ok, wait a minute. Are you saying if we sign up with Rogers for GameCenter Online, it ONLY works if we are in Canada?? That doesn't sound right.
(let's ignore the VPN services for the moment)

I have a buddy that lives in the US. He doesn't watch hockey (shocking!), so he's going to sign up for me in the States, using his US credit card attached to his US address where he lives in the US as a US citizen...
My concern: I'm going to use that account from Canada, but every time I go to the GameCenter site, it kicks me over to Rogers, where I have to sign in using a MyRogers account. This is just getting ridiculously stupid.

Rogers support person tells me that:
"The pre-season games are not available on the GameCenter Live. The first regular season game starts October 8th, that is when the GameCenter live will be available. The app will be available October 6th. The GameCenter Live will include the playoff games"
