Interesting that yesterday when Steinberg was interviewing Tod Button and asked him about Ritchie he specifically brought up Ritchie, Dal Colle, Nylander and Kapanen as guys they think will be top 6 wingers. No mention of Perlini or Ehlers.
Might've been smoke but it might've actually been him leaking the 4 wingers they like best this year.

I believe you are mistaken. JG is much further along the #5 would be, and I believe the bird in hand is better than the one in the bush.

Yeah, he's totally better off staying here with an even suckier team. A team that has no intention of being any better next year.

I just think this management group is more interested in size/skill than speed/skill if it comes down to it. They have said as much in press confrences, etc.

I cringe every time I see Backlunds name. Ugh can we not trade our good young players for unproven draft picks.

I REALLY like Kapanen. His game isn't as gritty as say Bennett or Ritchie but his skills set is beter than Ritchies and on par with Bennetts IMO. Just needs some defensive development. I'd definitely like them to consider him if they got into another top ten pick.

It'd be a sad day, considering all we've invested in JG and the excitement surrounding him, but I have no doubt that Burke/Treliving/Conroy do that trade.
|
No you dont.
No player in this draft has proven more than JG or has a higher ceiling.

They wouldn't fly Conroy and the Flames PR to Boston for JG - just to trade him in the summer.

Backlund is now in his prime and just came off his best season which is nothing to write home about in the grand scheme of things and is injury prone. You have to give up quality to get quality (unless you are the Canucks) and I certainly wouldn't be hanging up on any GM interested in dealing for Backlund. I don't want to see him given up for a mediocre return but if the return is quality I don't have an issue as I don't see Backlund as a cornerstone player.

Gaudreau isn 't going anywhere. CP needs to take a few deep breaths.

Any player under 25 that has a legitimate shot at being an NHL player next season should not be traded. For me that includes Baertschi, Gaudreau, Wotherspoon and Poirier. I also wouldn't want to see any of Reinhart, Ferland, Seiloff, Granlund or Arnold traded but I understand you got to give to get and wouldn't be TOO choked to see them go (coupled with some other assets) for another top 10. I would much rather see any of our close or above 30 forwards traded.

I'm not afraid to say it. Johnny Hockey is worth this year's 1st OA.
Very possible he becomes a more impact player than anyone in this draft.

hard to see how we can possibly trade a Wideman, Hudler, etc....we are $13 million under the floor....we cannot ice a team unless we reach it....how do we spend $15-$20 million once we trade those guys?....the top UFA's (who make the most $$) are not coming to a rebuilding team....

Found this interesting.... Perlini being labelled a potential bust by two of these five scouts.
Quote:
Yahoo Sports polled five different amateur scouts from different NHL teams to pick their brains prior to the 2014 entry draft on Friday in Philadelphia. The scouts all cover different territories – including Western Canada, the U.S., Ontario and Quebec-Maritimes.

Which player do you think has the greatest potential to end up as a bust?

Glad to see a flames rumor outside of moving up/down in the draft.
If we get 5/7 I have no problem taking Ritchie as long as we get one of the big 4 with our other pick. Also no issues trading Sven

Even if we traded him for First overall I'd be mad.
Next year though...
