People often get lots of religious stuff they don't understand mixed up. I know I would be able to explain the basics of Judaism and Islam, but only because I took a religion course in school.
I have no idea what JW believe other than the no birthday/Christmas thing.

JWs watch TV. I went to school with at least seven that I knew of, and each of them watched TV. They didn't celebrate birthdays and almost every holiday. They do celebrate the memorial of Christ's death. When kids bugged, or asked them, about birthdays and gifts, they politely replied they get enough gifts throughout the year and don't need a special day. They don't allow blood transfusions, and you are rejected by the other members if you get one. They are allowed to drink alcohol within reason, but I've seen a few of them get "piss their pants" drunk.

You are upset they they shouldn't get "piss their pants" drunk?
I would support any religion that says you should never urinate in your pants while passed out on some strange guys couch with a penis drawn on your face.

I am outraged at the blood transfusion.
As an aside, how often are you urinating yourself on a stranger's couch while he is drawing on you...........cuz I want your life!

My buddies sister in law almost died giving birth because both her husband and her said that she couldn't have a blood tranfusion.
It's insane......

Last time I was drunk enough to do anything even close to that, the Flames hadn't even heard of the Young Guns era yet.

The Bible says that blood is sacred--Mosaic Law entailed that no animal with its blood could be eaten, only if it was properly drained. I don't recall the precise scripture, but it says to "abstain from blood," which is taken to mean that you avoid taking blood into your body.
There are grey areas with the blood issue: a full blood transfusion is not okay, and any acceptance of white cells/red cells/plasma/platelets. However there are smaller blood fractions that are a "conscience issue," as well as various ways of treating one's own blood and having it cycled back into the body, etc. And really, it's pretty remarkable what kinds of bloodless medical technology there is nowadays.
Also I have heard of JWs who wouldn't let their kids watch TV, but that's definitely not a religion-wide thing. Drinking is acceptable too, it's meant to be done "in moderation," though I've definitely seen some drunk JWs before. Holidays aren't celebrated, as many of them have Pagan origins. Birthdays aren't celebrated--the only two birthday celebrations in the Bible were non-believers, and bad things happened at each. Anniversaries/graduations/weddings are still good.
Just a little rundown of some of the beliefs.

The bible also says that you shouldn't wear clothes made from two different materials, and that you should stone to death anyone that works on the Sabbath.
What the bible says should have no more relevance to one's life that what Harry Potter says.
