A suspect fled the scene before police arrived, but officers were able to track him down a short distance away and arrested him with the help of the K9 unit.
“We're not currently looking for anyone else,” Poole said.
Hours after the killings, a police officer retrieved what looked like a bloody kitchen knife dropped in a gutter about 40 metres south of the murder scene.

Police say a man who had fled from the home was arrested with the help of a canine unit and later taken to hospital for treatment of dog bite injuries.
Multiple witnesses were taken to the Westwinds Campus and are currently being interviewed by detectives, police said in a statement.
There’s no immediate word on a motive for the attack.

The suspect was taken to hospital to be treated for a dog bite. His name will be released once charges have been laid, police said.

Crime is perhaps down but mental illness seems to be up, or is becoming more complex.
So sad. Will wait for details to emerge but I find it hard to believe this could be a spur of the moment, drunken rage type of thing.

That's not what you originally stated, but other posters have already called you out on that, so I'm not going to repeat their posts.

You're not going to convince anyone that your "personal observation" has any merit whatsoever unless you cite sources to back up your claim. Since you're either unwilling or unable to do so, don't expect anyone reading this thread to take your anecdote seriously.

Surprised to hear it is a kitchen knife... You always hear of stabbings that do not result in death. For this maniac to kill 5 people with a kitchen knife is makes the story more intriguing.
Good work on CPS to get this scumbag as quick as they did!

Social media/cell phone popularity makes it easier for incidents to be reported &/or spread by the media in the following days.
Not to mention the few more people who reside in Calgary vs years back!

The U of C doesn't organize anything, and aren't involved other than allowing the use of a parking lot (formerly the main quad).
The SU puts on the event, so it is already student organized as it stands. Linking this tragedy to BSD is foolish, it could have happened at any weekend house party. I've seen more drunken violence at a single Flames game than I have in 4 years of attending BSD, perhaps they should ban booze at the Dome as it leads to crazy behaviour in the stands.

Any names released yet?
This is crazy. Right before I started college there was a pick axe murder at the party in Queensland and now right after I finished college there is this. These always freak me out. You never know with randoms. One fight or altercation can turn into something like this.
Scary stuff.

Or is becoming more over-diagnosed. It's funny how people immediately jump to the pathological rather than the moral diagnosis. Stabbing five people is evil. That is my first assessment.

I'm not playing the stat game because I don't have time to do the research, or care (unlike you, for some reason). I'm only going by personal observation and you can't convince me otherwise.

Good thing anectdotal testimony/evidence is so notoriously reliable.

I'm not trying to convince others at all. Never have been. I directly called it personal observation, which you seem butthurt over, and I'm not sure why. Get over it already.

I would suggest that by allowing the SU to organize and hold events on the campus that the U of C have endorsed (either tacitly or directly) the event.

No, you're right. There is virtually no observation that can be made about this event beyond what general statistics can tell us.
