Team USA is expected to be skilled on defense at the World Championships with young NHL players Jacob Trouba, Seth Jones, Jeff Petry and Jake Gardiner committing to play for the national team.

Nashville Predators forward Craig Smith, a key member of last year's bronze medal team, is also going to play, along with New York Islanders' Brock Nelson and Hobey Baker winner Johnny Gaudreau, who signed last week with the Calgary Flames and scored his first NHL goal.

Peter Laviolette, an assistant coach on the 2014 U.S. Olympic team, is expected to be named U.S. coach for the tournament that will be held in Minsk, Belarus, from May 9-25.

Florida Panthers players Vince Troycheck and Jimmy Hayes have also agreed to play.

why are the GMs/Owners are always so up in arms with players participating in the Olympics but have no problem with the World Hockey Championships?

Because it doesn't take away from the season and if guys get hurt they have the whole summer to recover, it's not right before the playoff push.

1. season is already over, teams aren't battling for playoff positions
2. if an injury occurs still a few months for healing and rehab before next season starts
3. if a serious injury occurs, still have free agency to help fill holes

And it is usually young guys still developing that go and the experience for them is likely a lot more helpful than Crosby/Getzlaf going to Olympics.

Yeah, TSN has the IIHF/Hockey Canada rights.

So the Flames twitter announced Gaudreau was going to play for USA, but he's not been listed on their roster.

Both Hayes bros. are listed.

Team USA has only officially announced 15 players. It's expected that Gaudreau will be officially added later. Whenever that is.

Surprised bit that it hasent been mentioned Johnny hockey was officially anoounced a while ago now.
