I'm starting to like Mike Johnson as the on-ice colour guy. He seems to be decent at whatever he does, be it on panels or as colour. Sometimes he's a bit chatty, but never lost for words

I could listen to Mike Emrick do play by play of paint drying and be on the edge of my seat. Love that guy.

Ya I kind of wish the crowd volume was turned up, but I'm pretty sure it's kept low so you don't hear as much swearing. All you ever hear on NBC and TSN are swears when the players are near a mic. Just a thought, but maybe SN doesn't want that? At the end of the day, I'm just grateful we don't have to pay for PPV games anymore and I can watch the team I love in the comfort of my own home. I also PVR the game so I can skip commercials and the intermission where everyone seems to hate the panel so much.

Wrong thread my bad

Signed up and did the survey. Echoed the sentiment of most of us here.
Here's hoping for change!

Did the same. Perhaps if enough of us do it, changes will happen.

With Sportsnet losing the Senators I wonder if there's a chance the Ottawa PBP guy would come to Calgary? Haven't heard a ton of him... but never drove me crazy when I did

it was interesting comparing last nights TSNs production to SN....
Personally I find the panel just as annoying if not more so than SN - it all felt just so yank-jock, i had to remind myself this is for the canadian market!!
See what you mean on the sound quality tho, such a different approach...

What defines a "canadian" panel?

The SN guys boring you to the point you realize it's time to go to the kitchen or change the channel until the next period starts? The fact that people actually watch TSN intermissions is telling of the difference in production qualities.

He is the best in the business right now, IMO.
And the entire production quality on NBC is first rate. It's a shame they only cover a 6 team league.

Oh, well SN is very effective at being Canadian then.
I can't even stand James Duthie (I know I'm in the minority there) and I still think TSN's panels are better. My main problem with TSN was the cut straight to Sportscentre after the game. HNIC, for as much flak as their panel gets, is by far the best in terms of producing hockey as an event. I think that's the worst part of this whole Rogers deal, even more so than TSN losing games.

I just don't see it, I don't understand why Emerick gets the hype he does. Doc Emerick is fine at talking while a game is happening, Cuthbert, Miller and Hughson are all better PBP guys than him. I would even put Rick Ball over Emerick.

Ah, totally forgot about Rick Ball. Whoever's responsible for bring him in to HNIC did a great job. Obviously Ball's a Canucks fan, but damn he's good at his job.

Yep. He's pretty competent and one of the better hires HNIC has made in a long time.

Every night I go to sleep and dream that SN hired Curt Keilback to do PBP for Flames games.
Every morning, I wake up disappointed.
I have no idea how Curt never made it back to doing games after he left the Coyotes broadcast.

With just two games left I can say that I am beyond ready for the incoherent mumbling of Charlie Simmer and the randomly inflected babbling of Rob Kerr to stop torturing my ears. It's all I can hear at this point. I find myself watching the game and just intently listening for the next ridiculous gem from these guys.
Simmer talking about players playing for jobs next season: "a new continued coach in Bob Hartley". What in the flying hell is a new continued coach? If I ever met Simmer I would try to slip in as many "at that points" as I could just to see if he caught on. Sort of like the "meow" scene from Super Troopers.
Kerr describing a pass in front from behind the net: "Kane parks it out into the slot". Ever heard of somebody parking the puck before Rob Kerr came into your life? I bet you hadn't. And where exactly on the ice are "the weeds" Rob Kerr?

Dean Brown is dull as dishwater. He and Simmer together would be unbearable. I would be surprised and disappointed to see Sportsnet's production not improve going forward regardless.

Since tonight's game was also being broadcast by TSN for the Jets feed, here's a comparison between the picture qualities of TSN and Sportsnet.
I haven't made any adjustments to either broadcast, other than resizing the two.

I often wonder if the Sportsnet feed is dimmer/duller so that those stupid end zone ads on the glass can be dropped in and stand out more?
Can't wait to see even more of those next year, and probably on HNIC...

Eh, I actually liked Brown's PBP more than Hughson (and less than Bowen).
