A part of me want Burke to ride in and trade Cammalleri to LA after McTavish has put in all this work.

One perk about having such a bad team in such a bad city that none of your players will actually hold you to your NTC/NMC. If I were Edmonton I'd just hand them out to everyone.

If all Edmonton can get for Gagner is Clifford the big red dog and a pick then I would suggest they keep him....

So Gagner is doing cart wheels at the thought of getting out of edmonton, poor Clifford, I can't imagine what he's thinking from strong contender, sunny LA to the hole that is edmonton.

I've only seen 4 or 5 oilers games but I just don't see Gagner as a "Sutter" guy. He's not big, doesn't play big, isn't mean or aggressive, doesn't really put in the effort, doesn't play defense. He's gonna have a rude awakening at the first practice I think.

Not much of an update.
Nick Kypreos@RealKyper2 mins
#TradeTracker As of now Gagner still penciled in vs #Rangers. #Oilers #Kings continue talks regarding potential trade involving multi pieces

Edmonton trading Gagner to LA? Is he injured?
Why would LA want Gagner at all? He costs $4.8M which is obscene for what he brings to the table, the Oil would have to eat half his salary just to get rid of him.
And why would Gagner want to go to LA? Is he really that enthused about being a 4th line centre? 3rd line at best?
Its common knowledge that if the Oil want to get better they have to do it via trade but someone forgot to tell MacT that hes got to trade a good player, and that means Eberle or maybe Hall.

Personally, I think Gagner has the requisite talent to really excel somewhere else. I don't feel he'll ever be great in a shoddy system like Oilcountry, but playing under Sutter in LA might be just what he needs.

As for the bolded...get a grip man.
The holdup is Lombardi wiping the pool of tears out of his office as Big Red Clifford sobs uncontrollably for not having an NMC.
MacTavish can't trade Eberle or Hall because the impact players they'd want back in return invoked their NTC yesterday.

Surprised there are so many Gagne haters. While he is a small player, he has proven to be able to put up points at the NHL level. Sutter would teach him defence so LA will make him a much better player.

Okay, fair enough. Other than the obvious reason of getting the hell out of Dodge and laughing that the idiot KLowe already pays him $4.8M for the next few years.

Clifford must be just sick to his stomach at the thought of going from a Cup Contender and great scenery to the idea of going to Emondump.
Must be thinking wtf did I do to deserve this unholy punishment.

Gagner is fine...but just not what Edmonton needs. His price is a bit high BUT hes still young and could round out as well.
If the Flames could trade a somewhat plugger for a guy like Gagner I would be all for it.

I can only imagine that he slept with Lombardi's wife or something. Even then this seems extreme....

It would be funny getting your LA paycheck and also getting your Edmonton paycheck ... for over a million dollars.
|
If a team retains salary, it is a single fixed percentage for the remaining term of the contract, of both the real dollars paid to the player and the cap hit.
The player will receive a single pay cheque from his current team, and the team is reimbursed by the other team.

If the Oilers retain salary, for Calgary's sake, we want to see Edmonton win this trade (AKA get a good prospect or high draft pick). We need the market value of salary retention to be set high, so when we start trading guys like Cammalleri we can use this trade as a benchmark for what we want back for keeping salary.

Not really. MacT could just be a terrible negotiator like Feaster? The one thing I am not worried about with Burke is the fact he seems to get value for his players in trades

Doesn't really matter who the negotiator is, Burke has said multiple times already that there is no market value yet for salary retention, so whoever is the first, it'll be big in setting how much keeping cap space is worth.

I guess if we are looking at trading Wideman that makes sense but tough to gauge the market on a player with 2 years left vs pending UFA's as it pertains to salary retention. Perhaps you were referring to the Hudler and Wideman types?
