They said at least 4 times during the game that Monahan would tie the Flames rookie goal-scoring record with 20. Later they amended that Phaneuf also had 20 goals in his rookie year.
How did they completely forget Nieuwendyk with 50+ goals in his rookie season?
Point being, those Ottawa guys are idiots. I don't put much stock in anything they say regarding the Flames.

Reason: added "rookie" in front of "goal-scoring". So sue me, I'm frunk...er...drunk

Lol:
“@boringmonahan: Coach Hartley said if we win he promises we'll have a big screen and free popcorn to watch the finale of The Walking Dead tonight.”
“@boringmonahan: Coach Hartley said we are still allowed to watch The Walking Dead, but only because I scored my 20th goal. That was nice of him.”

very true.... they kept saying tyler witherspoon throughout the broadcast. i pm'ed roger millions hoping he would go and correct them, but i guess he didn't sign into cp during the broadcast
with respect to Nieuwendyk, they probably took his rookie year as 86/87... played 9 regular season games and 6 playoff games. his first full season was 87/88, when he scored 51

I though Denis Potvin would have caught the Nieuwendyk scoring. As rookies Bossy had had the record with 53 goals and Nie almost caught him with 51.

And they topped it off by saying he was an Ottawa native too. Solid work there, TSN.

Loob had 30.
Carey Wilson had 24.
Brett Hull had 26 (then 6 more with the Blues that same year)
Ranheim had 26.
Makarov had 24... but we all know that storey.
Titov, in the same department as Makarov had 27.
I guess you can't really add Titov and Markov due to their age but it was exciting to see new NHL players on our team getting immediate success
Nieuwendyk's 51 was clearly the best. I'd love for somebody to come in and surprise everybody with a 30 goal rookie year for the Flames. Maybe it's Gaudreau or Porier or one of our next 1st round draft picks (2014 or 2015). Maybe it doesn't happen for a couple of years, but I remember the excitement of Nieuwendyk's 51 goal rookie season and it would be nice to have a rookie create that buzz again. In today's game, 30 should do it.
I'd just be happy if we get a rookie scoring 20 goals every 3 years or so too, and then going on to live up to the early hype.

I'll admit I went for the low-hanging fruit by bringing up Nieuwendyk, but I didn't do any research. Solid job there, Buff.

I must've missed what everyone is hearing. I kept hearing them say that Monahan is the first Flames forward SINCE Jarome Iginla to score 20 in their rookie season...
Either way, congrats to Monny, and I'm glad Hartley let them watch The Walking Dead finale to celebrate the goal

Thanks, Lol
I didn't get the Ottawa feed. I did watch TSN and they almost got into an argument as one of the anchors said the first Flames forward since Iggy to score 20, the other anchor mentioned Dion, and the guy snapped back... I said first flames forward... or something to the tune of that.
