Tanguay was traded because of the fans? You really believe that?

I see no similarity at all between these two players.

This team needs warm bodies for next year. Now they have one more. I am sure the price/term reflects the market for Stajan.

Good thing we traded him for David Jones.

I'd rather see any combination of these 4 players in the lineup over Stajan.
Does Reinhart even play center anymore?

And that is a surefire group of centers to get McDavid. Not a single one of those guys can play against the top centers in the league without getting slaughtered. Stajan is not a superstar but he can play competent minutes against the other teams top Centers.

I think Colborne is one of the better FO guys on the team so would prefer to see him stay and perhaps Backlund moved to the wing if it came to that.

HATE this move. We need to change this team up. Stajan should not be part of the rebuild.

This sucks for knight who has been dominating in the ahl.

Please please please be sign and trade.

I sure hope so. With a front loaded signing bonus that we pay to increase his trade value to a cap floor team like the Islanders.

Terrible signing if true. We should be icing a team of only rookies and young players, having any vets signed is so dumb. Just rookies getting smoked by other teams' top lines nonstop, that's how you build a team.

Colborne might be better at taking the face off but he's inferior in every other way at the center position then Backlund. If Colborne is better taking the faceoff then cool, have him take it then shift back to the wing. Beyond that though he's a poor centermen.

Dominating???

He has 28 points in 41 games and is 5th on his team in scoring (thanks to B. Jones only playing 16 games).

I haven't watched the Heat this year but he must be the greatest defensive center in the history of the game to be "dominating" the AHL.

I have never questioned Stajan's attitude. He seems like a good guy. In fact, I would say that just from a fan perspective, he seems like he brings net positives in that regard.

If it's 2 years, I'll be happy with this. Anything over 3 years would be bad though.

No problems here, need a guy at his level against first and second lines.

The Flames weren't going into next season with Backlund as their most experienced center and I bet it'd be a lot easier to get Stajan to re-sign than it would be to sign an equivalent vet in the off-season since the team is going to be absolutely terrible next year. Good move, provided the money and years aren't ridiculous.

My bet is that it's the exact same contract as the previous one with maybe a 15% raise.

I think Backlund is pretty poor in the other areas as well but I have seen how overrated he is by many and that argument isn't worth having (again) in this thread.

I think Colborne fits as the 4th line guy anyways so he should be out of the Backlund/Stajan logjam anyways.

Jesus, no kidding. The guy was dumped from the first line to the fourth, and all he did was go out and do the best he could in the role while holding his head high in the media.

If that's pouting, I want more pouters on this team.

I hope this contract is:
1. short term (2 years?)
2. no clauses to limit ability to trade

If it is both of those, it doesn't hurt Calgary. If it is long term or has NTC then I have doubts.

You need experienced players, you need centres (you can always convert to wing, like Colborne is lately), and if you are trying to keep veteran presence on the team, it is easier to retain veterans in a rebuild than to get them as UFA, and it is stupid to trade for them.
