Baertschi's 8 goals and 24 points in in 51 NHL games may seem to compare to Toffoli's 11 goals and 22 points in 43 games, but watching the play tells a different story. Toffoli, while not ready for a position on a team hoping to contend this year, has shown he is able to play the game at the NHL level and contribute on the scoresheet and not be a total detriment in the defensive zone. His +14, while earned in sheltered minutes, is tied for third best on the Kings. He is definitely well ahead of Baertschi in having a more complete game. He is also bigger than Baertschi and has the potential to bring more truculence to the game than his Swiss counterpart. Toffoli has 3 inches and 15 pounds of Baertschi, which is important considering Burke's comments about wanting to get bigger.

Toffoli also appears to be the better pro. His 39 goals and 68 points in 71 AHL games is vastly superior to Baertschi in every way. Baertschi's 12 goals and 30 points in 45 AHL games isn't even in the same stratosphere. Toffoli has shown he can play the game physically at both levels, something Baertschi has not. Baertschi is still a decent prospect, but he isn't in the same league as Toffoli. If we could pry Toffoli away from the Kings and only have to give up Baertschi, that would be a seriously good deal for the Flames.

Sven was tops in the CHL in ppg the year after he was drafted. He had a very solid start to his pro career during the lockout but has struggled since then. He is having a sophomore slump but he was a very high en prospect before this year. I think he has potential to bounce back

I wonder if some of these teams might be more in the market for a guy like Hudler?

He's not a rental but easier to fit under the cap this year ($2m less than Cammy) and I doubt any of these teams could sign a FA in the off-season who can provide Hudler's production for a 2 year - 8 million contract.

The Flames might only score 10 goals the rest of the season without Hudler and Cammy but if this is Hudler's career season it might be the time to move him while his value is at it's peak.

How effective can he be on the half wall, even in a powerplay situation, against teams like the Sharks, Ducks, and Blues? Those are the teams the Kings would have to get through in the playoffs. Most of the top teams in our conference are huge and punishing. He hasn't shown he can win a physical battle against a player with a size advantage on a regular basis. Cammalleri is a good regular season player, he has good hands. He can help a team get points to secure a playoff spot. But in the Western Conference, he is unlikely to put up those same points when the game becomes more defensive and more physical in the playoffs. I'm not suggesting he has nothing to offer, but he's a small guy and his skill set is probably going to be much more useful in the East where skill can be as useful as size.

I doubt the Flames are willing to trade quality non-pending veterans like Giordano, Glencross, and Hudler. They have enough pending UFAs to deal with and they need some quality veteran leadership next season to mentor the young players.
