i would say Ortio should be promoted. Nemo was a hard worker with no luck, but he is gone now. Cundari is not a dump. Next to billins he is a Key player for the Heat. A great dissapointement is old news and complete over exageration. Simply watching all the games would support that. He is tough, in your face and not afraid to make a play.

That team would get destroyed. You would probably need to sign someone capable of shouldering #1 C duties for at least 2 years.

Maybe we could package a couple of players for a good young right wing too.

Surprisingly though, that D-core doesn't look half bad, provided Wotherspoon can step into that role.

I think this is the right direction to head in, but doing it this quickly could go terribly.

First of all, we're getting killed no matter what we do next year. Don't worry about result and focus on developing Monahan into a top line center. Knight is also a much older prospect and will probably transition easily into the NHL. Granlund is the only real x-factor there and we have guys like Colborne, Bouma, and Reinhart who could slot into a lower line center position as well.

Secondly, if you think it's really easy to find someone to play 1st line center don't you think we would have done so and moved Matt friggin Stajan down a line or two?

Here's a link to the list of UFAs coming up this off season.

http://capgeek.com/free-agents/?year...F&fa_type_id=2

Who exactly do you want? Remember now, very few quality free agents would come to Calgary at the moment. We would likely be stuck with a retread who would not really be a true 1st line center.

Not going to get Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Marian Gaborik, or Thomas Vanek. There could be an outside shot at picking up Paul Stastny. After him the next realistic options are Derek Roy, David Legwand, and Olli Jokinen.

If you ask me, we stand pat with the kids at center and keep developing them.

D Jones is a slight upgrade on Comeau. But triple the price for three more seasons. Get rid of him.

The only thing Wideman has going for him is his shot. 5 million a year for Andy Delmore 2.0. Look at the difference in the Flames GAA since he went down. Get rid of him.

If the Flames are in cap floor trouble this off season how about give Wideman and Jones' money to Iginla. Jarome Iginla for one year at 9 million with a handshake agreement that he will be traded to a contender at the deadline assuming that the Flames are out of the playoff picture.

9 mill for Jarome sounds crazy. But really, If you are going to watch a Flames game, who would you rather see at 9 mill per. Jones and Wideman. Or Jarome Iginla. I know what player I'd rather watch.
We wouldn't be able to trade Iginla at the deadline, because most contenders don't have the cap space for another 9million dollar contract. I'm not sure if you're joking or not though

Wouldn't mind either way:
- Byron
- B. Jones

- Galiardi

The goalie situation is up in the air. Berra and Ramo are probably the two best goalies not named Kipper to play for us in recent memory so they are both at least backup calibre.

Keep:
- Monahan -he's going to be a legend
- Backlund -always has been a phenomenal player with heart
- Gio -leadership, strong defenseman, reliable, consistent
- Brodie - obviously
- Hudler - best recent acquisition, great scorer
- Bouma - all heart, tough and spry
- Colborne - big player, doing much better than when he was with Leafs
- Russell - Russell also a vet, could help younger defensemen, feel very comfortable when he's on ice, rarely makes gaffs-TJ and Russell could be a fantastic long term pairing for speed, precision and PK/PP
- Stajan -doing well under all circumstances, solid, great endurance
- Byron -speedy little devil, hungry, will get better and better with time
- Stempniak - true whirling dervish- good player with enormous potential, just needs a bit more consistency
- Cammalleri - I love Cammi, I don't want him to leave, I love his leadership and he's a solid vet, can be brilliant
- Smith - love this guy as bottom pairing D- fill role well, dependable
- Mcgrattan- perfect enforcer, arguably best fighter in league, necessary for a mostly small team, good for morale
- Baertschi- potential future all star, amazing player and play maker, just needs a little work on overall game, he'll get there
-Berra- excellent in SO, lets in few softies
-Ramo- solid goalie (both of these goalies can get better with a better offensive team, I think we don't give them enough respect- I think they are both impressive and could work as a team in alternating starts- two great goalies for a rebuild)

Trade:
- Smid - too slow, need someone faster for future
- Glencross - way too lazy, selfish player, not a team player, no good for rebuild
- David Jones - undecided, sometimes he looks great, but may get better return
- Wideman - great shot but too slow, must be paired with quicker defender- too one sided for pairing with younger, faster players
- Butler- I think Chris is doing a very good job this year but he does make some pretty bad mistakes. I actually like Chris, but would rather trade him for someone with more hockey smarts
- Galiardi - not enough heart, inconsistent
- Westgarth - only here because I don't know anything about him
- SOB - too slow, no hockey smarts, Grats much better enforcer, don't need two

Bb fan you are keeping 12 forwards. Not interested in seeing any of the young guys from the farm get a shot?

The game was keep or dump. I was thinking current roster (I guess, except Sven).

1st round pick or high end prospect. Can play top 4, and a qb quarterback. With the cap jumping in each of the next few seasons due to the rogers deal...teams will be looking for defensive depth. I could see Colorado as a perfect fit.

I doubt it. Wideman was benched by the Caps during their playoff run. Not because he was unhealthy, but because they didn't think he could handle it. I'm a big Wideman fan, but I don't think you'll get that good of a return for him.

I don't think that a team would be willing to give up that much for wideman. Maybe a second round pick and a prospect?

Dump = when Leafs unload an s-load of crap onto the Flames. It's like what one poster says about having a good dinner and then taking a huge dump afterwards.

Realistically, dump the following:
- Cammy
- Byron
- Glencross
- Stempniak
- Russell
- Wideman
- Baertschi
- TJ Galiardi

The only reason why Stajan is not in my list for dump is that he is a centerman that's more than 6 feet tall.

Then, hope to tank for the next two years. Gotta shoot for the #1 pick overall for 2015 draft. Build up the big center forwards and the big defence. Then worry about the rest.

So you want to dump Baertschi, but keep Stajan because he's 6' tall?

Good plan!

Flames record with Gio and Wideman in the line-up 4-2-2

Flames record with just Gio 5-8-1

Flames record with just Wideman 4-11-1

Neither Wideman nor Gio can carry a team by themselves.

When they are together the team becomes competent and competitive.

It would be hard to get anything back for Wideman as he is on his over-paid UFA contract with 3 years left after this year. If any other team wanted him they could have had him for 200K/year more and give up no assets.

That is the reason that the Flames got Smid while giving up basically no assets. He has 3 years left after this year at 3.5M.

The only reason I could see for dumping Wideman would be to assure a top 3 draft pick. There is a danger that with Gio - Wideman -Brodie- Smid and Russell the Flames could go on a bit of a run and finish with the 7th/8th draft pick in the 2014 draft.

Keep unless you get an overpayment:
Monahan
Brodie
Giordano
Baertschi
Bouma
Backlund
Colborne
Russell
Berra
Ramo

Take it or leave it (MEH):
Glencross - I'd trade him but the NMC may prevent it
Hudler - I'd trade him in the right deal. Only if we're getting good value.
B. Jones - I kind of like him, wouldn't mind seeing him re-signed but won't be choked if not
O'Brien - He's not as bad as some people think. He's an okay 6/7 guy
Smid - He's useful but not untouchable
Byron - I like what I've seen. But he hasn't shown to be a key part.
Stempniak - Loved his game last year and early this season. He's looked bad lately so I'm no longer in the should re-sign him camp
Wideman - Valuable asset but not a key guy to keep around IMO. Like Hudler I'd trade him if you get good value, if not keep him

Look to trade:
Cammalleri
Stajan
Galiardi
Butler
D. Jones - probably won't happen due to his salary and production and perhaps our need to stay close to the cap floor
