yeah I just mean that PHX was never mentioned anywhere as a possible destination I believe. Other teams were named favourites to sign him (MIN, EDM, CHI), thought it'd be one of those.

Are the Carey bros. not a package deal? Would they go to separate teams?

I get the impression they'd prefer to sign for the same team, but I think they've been negotiating separately & with different teams.

Seeing as the Coyotes have announced Greg's deal and Matt is still unsigned, looks like they are going to different teams.

Bob McKenzie was on NBCSN last night and said Flyers and Bruins are really interested in Folin and will go hard after him

And Dennis Robertson (Brown) signed with Carolina apparently.

Edit: He was a former 2011 Leafs 6th rounder, so I guess not a UFA....

Well, except Knight.
We probably signed the best College UFA ever, just didn't give him enough time to develop after doing so.

Playing the OJHL apparently. It's quite common for players to play in the USHL or Junior A in Canada before heading to college although Carey seems to have played there a bit longer than some.

This is why I think some fans underrate Jankowski. He actually was a freshman at 18 and that is very rare these days. He's been playing against players 3-5 years older in a lot of cases and keeping his head above water. So Jankowski still has a couple years of development before he's even as old as Carey. By then he could and should be a dominant player in college.

RT @ChrisKuc: #Blackhawks have agreed to terms with free agent forward Matt Carey on a two-year contract. Carey will wear number 25 for the Hawks.

C'mon Burke. Work your magic and snag Folin. The Bruins and Flyers can piss right off.

How does the Blackhawks signing of Matt Carey affect their cap & contract situation? I'm really hoping Burkie can snag Kevin Hayes and Stephen Johns from them.

if the ELC starts this season (not sure if it does), it puts them at 49 contracts ... unless Teravainen plays in 10 of their final 12 games, then they are at 50. Highly unlikely though.

I'd easily trade both of our second rounders this season for Johns and Hayes (and yes, I know you don't simply go for junior/college chemistry, but IMO a big RW would fill an organizational need). With Hayes, the Hawks can easily wait it out though ... worst case is he becomes UFA in August and the Hawks get the 54th pick next year as compensation.

Since Carey's contract starts this season (most likely since Chicago already assigned him a roster number) and Teravainen will also likely not slide if he is in for Kane. They are at 49 contracts for this season.

If Kane goes on LTIR they can most likely get the cap relief they need for the rest of the season.

However in relation to Hayes and Johns their contracts can begin next season if they are amenable and then this season's cap and reserve list issues are moot.
