Maybe a crappy organization like the Red Wings can find a use for him.
We should probably trade him for a 4th rounder while we still can. We won't have one of those for a while.

How else would you describe Sven's camp? I'm including the prospect mini-tourney where he wasn't even noticeable.

Prospect camp - Underwhelming, poor
Main camp - Average, good.
No one was really on Sven for main camp until Burke spoke up, then all of a sudden the narrative was what a bad camp he had. You had a lot of people just parroting Burke after that. Before it wasn't an issue/story.

It's that kind of attitude that caused Phaneuf to plateau skill wise at day 1 of his NHL career and he hasn't improved at all since.

Mark Scheifele, age 20, drafted 7th overall, had 9:58 of icetime tonight (Baertschi had 13:49). Has Noel ruined him? Will he ever bounce back?

Noel must be a terrible coach . He doesn't know how to handle rookies.

His play also wasn't an issue leading up to his first benching ... and then the same thing happened there. All of a sudden Sven was playing like crap and had a bad attitude.
It's odd.

I think Sven is playing great lately. He is on a 3 game point streak which is really good for someone that doesn't get much powerplay time and he's a beast on the forecheck.

Sven has the motor. He has the vision/skills. The game tonight was a good example of how dangerous offensively he can be, he was basically 1 guy versus 2 jets defenders and his skating caused them to misplay the puck and he was able to retrieve it, we ended up keeping the puck in the zone and we scored off of this.
I think he just needs a bit more powerplay time to get some more of that offensive confidence back. There is no reason why Hartley can't throw him out there every 2nd powerplay on the first unit instead of Monahan and have someone else take the draw.
I have actually liked his game, and I think that he is slowly learning how to play in this league. In Junior, he was able to carry the puck in the zone and make a play on the rush because of his skill level, it got him a lot of points. I think he will gain this ability back when he fully adjusts to the speed of the NHL. He will need to be given time, he needs to bulk up a little bit more, that way he can create some space for himself. Right now he can compete in the corners, but I feel with a little more strength he will be able to pull away from defenders and get some time, and when he has time with the puck he can be very deadly, especially in the offensive zone.

Will Sven Bounce Back?
He's doing everything the coach asks of him lately... We've seen how good he can be when his confidence gets going. He's on a 3 game point streak and he's been far and away the best forechecker on the team lately.
I said when he was sat out for the 2nd time that I hope Hartley is as quick to reward him with ice time and powerplay minutes when he plays well as he was quick to sit him when he wasn't. His ice time has been going up but I would like to see him get more powerplay time. I understand it's tough though cause the guys he would replace on the powerplay have also been playing well (Hudler, Monahan, cammalleri).

I said he was on the verge of one of his streaks. Looks like he is. Possibly the most noticeable player on the ice over the first two periods.
Where the haters at?

I think the title of this thread can be changed. Sven has bounced back, he still needs to shoot more and get in close to the net for rebound opportunities when the set up for a shot is occurring. Limit the amount of times he tries to go between defenders legs this isn't CHL, AHL rarely does that move work. When he does that he ends up losing valuable possession.
Still plenty of upside with Sven and the more he plays with Hudler or Stempniak the better for his game long term.
It's up to him to be a sponge around those two for hockey IQ.

Baertschi's 43 career games pro-rated over an 82 game season:
13G 27A 40PTS +2
I don't know about you guys, but I'd consider that a very successful rookie season. Taking into account much of his time is spent on the 3rd line, and plays an average of 12-14 mins a night, it's a fantastic rookie season.
I still see a very bright future for this kid.

Not sure if you really should count the first 5 games of his career. That was a bit on an anomaly (3 goals)
If you look at last year, he lasted 20 games with the Flames and scored 3 goals and 7 assists... then he was sent down to Abby.
This year after 18 games he's scored 1 goal and 7 assists....
It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him demoted to the Heat.

I was worried about his health last season. He put himself in vulnerable positions and looked physically weak. This season, other then the hit he took in the prospects game from Nurse, he's looked strong and I don't worry much about him anymore. As he gains his confidence to play a somewhat physical game, his offence should take off.

His offence certainly couldn't get much worse (1 goal in 18 games). However, he might be running out of chances to impress Feaster/Burke/Hartley.
