Feel bad for Joey Mac but he did play in the NHL and has made decent coin playing a game.
However, there seems to be some character issues with him. Apparently the Flames wanted him to come in in the best shape ever as there was the potential to be a no. 1 here, and he just came into camp in his usual shape. Then the comments after the loss against Detroit.
Will be interesting to see what the Flames do with him. Do you send him to the ECHL and have one of your prospects backup in the AHL, or do you find some minor league team to loan him out to? You probably don't want him influencing any of your prospects.

Was thinking the same thing, bringing Berra up now may be just speeding things up to see what we have, or if we need to look elsewhere.

Good riddance. I thought i was half asleep when he called out the team and said that piss poor 3rd goal he let in was 'lucky'.
I guess it was Mcdonald who was half asleep.

Could the Flames use a compliance buyout in the middle of the season like Montreal did with Gomez?

The one goal there last night, he was on his knees long before the shot came. Goes down way to much. Like dejavu in seeing Brent Krahn. Good luck Joey.

I don't think it would make much sense based on how cheap MacDonalds contract is.
Might as well just pay him the 900,000 dollars he is owed and have sit at home if that is how much they don't want him to be involved with the organization.
Seems hard to imagine they would want him gone that much when basically the only reason that made sense for them to sign him was to have him as a mentor to help the new guys adjust to the NHL/NA.

I wouldn't want him mentoring ANY of the young guys.
Guy is a benchwarmer/AHL goalie for most of his career. Finally gets a chance at a starting role with Kipper retiring this year and comes into camp out of shape... are you kidding me?

I will miss hearing 'Return of the mack' after he makes a big save, but he clearly wasn't the answer for now or the future.
No ill will towards him, wish him well in the future.

That's probably what they wanted, but if he is unable to even be accountable for the glaring mistakes he's making on the ice, there is no reason the think he would be/is a good mentor. Chances are the coaching staff has a similar opinion. If you're going to be kept around on an NHL roster for any reason other then you being skilled enough to be there, you better have the best bloody attitude on the team, own up to your mistakes and truly lead by example. MacDonald just doesn't seem like that kind of guy, and if he isn't a good mentor here he won't be in Abbotsford either. Just tell him to stay home, he brings nothing.

It isn't MacDonald versus the team, it was a guy answering a question and the type of answer you here from guys all the time after a loss, but people are angry after a loss and trying to blow it up in to something that it isn't.
|
Why are you assuming people are angry? People have a point of view just like you do but in this case they don't necessarily agree with your take. Joey may have answered some questions honestly "and that may/may not be your perspective". Unfortunately it just happens some people don't agree with what Joey said since he has some shortcomings of his own. Hopefully one day you will learn to appreciate that not all unique opinions match your own.

not much of an honest answer ( only in his own mind) to call the goal lucky when every one knows he misplayed it....

There were reports Hartley wasn't impressed with him when he came to camp.

I hope no one is expecting Berra to come in put up great numbers and solidify the #1 spot. It would be unfair to put those kind of expectations on a youngish player who has yet to play a single game in the NHL. He has been okay in Abbotsford but hasn't been a world beater. That said, he has a lot more upside and it makes a lot more sense for him to be here than Mac. If Berra lets in that weak 3rd goal last night, its more forgivable for a young, developing guy to make that mistake than a supposed vet. I still think Ramo's been better than his stats indicate, but having a Ramo-Berra tandem just made things very interesting. It's also nice to have Brossoit and Ortio play through their growing pains down in Abbotsford with Mac relegated to 3rd stringer if he passes through waivers.

I read the article and watched the video. He called it a lucky goal, which it was. He referred to it as a mistake he can't make, which it was. He said the team wasn't effective enough against Detroit's top players, and they weren't.
Some of you are making way, WAY too much out of those quotes.

I'm sure he'd agree that he misplayed it. He can still call it lucky.
When Luongo refuses to take blame for a bad performance, on one level it's kind of sad, but at the same time I understand a lot of goaltending is between the ears and that's just his way of moving past bad goals without letting them affect his concentration and confidence.
The reaction is a little strong. Lots of players deserve blame.

I assume people are angry because I have read the posts that have been made after the game.
I appreciate that people have a different opinion than I do which is why I haven't resorted to personal attacks against those with a different view than me unlike others in this thread. Never once here have said people can't/don't have different views from mine so not sure what the last part of your post has to do with anything.
