Every game I've been at has been a decent crowd.
In fact they do not allow people to move down tot he lower bowl. I've been turned away every time.

Anyone who has seen them play on TV understands why nobody pays to watch that garbage live. I don't care where they are in the standings, the entertainment value isn't there and they are horribly boring to watch because of the style they play.
I hope things work out for both of the fans in Phoenix and people actually start to care about the team there, I really do. However, I don't expect things to change until they put out a product that is worthwhile to consume.
I actually wonder if they would get more fans if they weren't as competitive, but actually put out a good product.

Any idea why they always announce Flames home games as sellouts but there are lots of empty seats? Nothing like Phoenix of course but lately I have noticed quite a few quality lower-bowl seats that are empty. I can only imagine what the 3rd deck looks like.
I've also noticed ticket prices online are waaaaaay cheaper than they used to be. Sucks to be a scalper right now

Same old same old. Fans want to support a winner. Regardless of the market.
Teams buffer the attendance with every season ticket, and any they give away to charity. So it's not really "attendance" it's "people who could have been here if they wanted".
In the late 90's in Calgary not many wanted. The upper decks were closed, and you could get a ticket for $5 with the purchase of a case of Coke. It'll likely go similar over the next couple seasons.

it has been a while but you are starting to hear sportcheck advertising for the sport check zone saying it is the "cheapest tickets you can buy"

That's been going on for at least the last decade.

Newspaper, radio (not necessarily 960, but on other stations), TV ads from time to time, huge signage in actual Sportcheks.
The Sportchek zone had been pretty widely advertised since at least 2006. Heavily so for the past 4 or 5 years.
I'm actually a little shocked there are people who HAVENT seen/heard the advertising for it.

Does Sportchek purchase all of the SCZ tickets for the season for their own resale? That would help explain how the team can say the 'Dome is sold out every night. Because its been empty up there midweek lots this season. No way those are all purchased but unattended seats.

Yup.
The attendance at the 'Dome has been solid this season for a rebuilding team but there are few nights when there is a butt in every single seat.

What about the tickets you can buy on ticketmaster even after the first period has started?
Those are unsold but they still announce a sell out.

Are talking when the Oil, Nucks, Habs and Leafers come to town and their fan base buy up the rest of the tickets.

Season ticket holders can now list their tickets on Ticketmaster and resell them. If they don't sell on Ticketmaster though, they are still paid for by the season ticket holder. I have basically all the games for the rest of the year up, but I still attend every game that doesn't sell. Mine drop off 3 hours before game time, but if you have no plans of attending at all I think you can just let them keep going.

I think Co-op resells SCZ tickets too. I wasn't sure if those were counted as "sold" by the Flames, regardless on whether Sportchek or Co-op, etc had actually sold them.
I am not sure how fans are taking this season. I went to the Jets game, and there were enough empty seats to be noticeable. Also the constant emails about player reserved seats being available, etc. makes me question if there are really sell our crowds.

Sportchek Zones tickets are the only reason I'm able to get to a decent amount of games. The price is awesome and they're usually really easy to get if it's not super popular team visiting. I've got the release schedule on my fridge right now
Slightly amusing story: Picked up some Sportchek tickets one time a couple seasons ago, turns out the seats are the very last row in the PL section. I proceed to make a lame comment about how we were "right up in the nosebleeds". As I speak, I get a nosebleed and spend half of the first period in the bathroom taking care of it

The player reserved seats have been available all along. That's never changed, though they are pushing them a lot harder in the last year or so. And Co-op's section is an upper end. When we have low interest games this year, the Co-op and SCZ areas are the most notable because they are the only parts of the arena that are not predominantly made up of season ticket holders.
The announced attendance at all NHL rinks (not to mention MLB, NFL, NBA) is tickets distributed rather that tickets sold or turnstile count. And since the Flames distributed those seats to Co-op and Sportcheck (even if they also re-sell them through Ticketmaster), they count as part of the attendance for this purpose.

There's a certain number of tickets that are put on hold for use of the visiting team and NHL officials (I think the number is somewhere around 100 pairs). They have to be held until, I think, 1:00 p.m. on the day of the game. You're allowed to call a game a sellout if these tickets are unused and not purchased once released to the general public.
