I thought they said they wanted him to be older. Honestly put Clooney back in. Guy would have been a great grizzled Batman if it wasn't for Schumacher.
I don't see it either, but then again I didn't see Michael Keaton and he did a great job.
I would love to see Clint Eastwood as the incredibly bitter older batman beating the crap out of teenagers and beating them almost to death before growling "I don't kill people as a rule, so you should feel lucky . . . punk"

I am a fan of Orlando Bloom, but I think casting him as Batman would be a mistake.
If he is in fact supposed to be an older, experienced Batman.. then I stick with Josh Brolin. Either that or Idras Elba, lets mix it up.

Joel Schumacher is history's greatest monster!

Damn Orlando Bloom? He's not a terrible actor, but it's hard to see him playing someone as gritty and noiresque as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Sort of seems similar as Eric Bana playing Hulk, which didn't really work out. Not the worst choice mind you, but not entirely confident in him yet.
He was great as an elf but Batman? To me he will always be the sissy brother in Troy. I also didn't find him believable as the lead in Kingdom of heaven.
He seems to have the type of voice to seduce me, not scare the crap out of me.
Stature wise Batman is pretty much the same as Superman. Whoever lost to Cavill, cast that guy.
I have read this rumor elsewhere, but the fact that the article also mentions JGL, Armie Hammer and Gosling has me wondering. Gosling is a good actor, but he ain't no Batman.
A lot of people said Heath Ledger wouldn't work as Joker, and we all know how that turned out. Bloom does bring the name value I believe DC wanted for the role. Some of the other choices are pretty much unknown commodities to the public, and adding a big name would go towards improving the bottom line.
Did anyone ever watch that movie where Bloom plays the psycho doctor? I believe that's really the only movie where he plays a more serious character.

No. No it did not. Understatement of the year.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Said Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production at Warner Bros. stated, “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”
Director Zach Snyder said, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
