This was done as a favour to Bouwmeester so he could have his #4 back.

Don't think so. I believe we dealt for him as a RFA and then we signed him.

Hmmm not a huge fan of this player for free, much less giving up a 5th for him...

Ship him off at the deadline for picks. Some team will always be looking for depth on the backend at the deadline.
This is the right direction. Stay away from deals longer than 3 years.
|
Trade him at the deadline for what, a 5th?
An Asset for a waiver player is dumb, no matter what spin people try to put on it.

Poor asset management and poor signing. I thought we're supposed to get tougher to play against?

Worst trade I've seen in a long time. I know nothing about this guy and it's guaranteed that the 5th rounder that St Louis picks will go on to a HOF career. Terrible job Jay, terrible.

I don't know what Russell brings to this team that 3 or 4 other guys on our defence don't already bring. We needed a stay at home big tough defenceman and we get another midget.
I'm not saying Russell isn't NHL quality but we don't need him. Feaster acting like a kid in a candy store with no will power, again.

You really should start keeping up on some of the trades.

Don't like this move but the Flames needed another defenceman. I would have preferred Jeff Schultz or even Mike Komisarek.
But at least Feaster didn't open the vaults for another Wideman. Feaster still sucks but he is getting better!
It's a one year deal for a guy who has some potential. Let's not get too upset over this.

Butler on the PP is bad because his puck handling is terrible. Someone's gotta play some PP minutes on the point now that Bouwmeester is gone.
Also, I think you can get a 5th or prospect back for him at the deadline if he's done anything but play himself off this roster. John Scott got a 5th two years ago for his particular set of skills.
|
I disagree because you are looking at it wrong. This has nothing to do with Butler vs Russel, it is Russel vs Cundari.
As you said Butler and Russel don't play the same game. THey will not be cancelling each other out. As much as posters hate Butler ( i could do with out him) they will play Butler more than Russel in 90 % of games.
This pick up was to see who will be playing with SOB on the bottom pairing. It's now between Cundari and Russel. I hope Cundari does not lose out because he is on a 2 way contract. If Russel sees pressbox 50% of the time the flames will not get back their 5th.
Hopefully they trade Butler, but i still dont see the flames going out on the ice with 2 d-men at 5'9".

I see him as a low-risk project. Wonder why the Flames didn't pick him up on waivers instead but a 5th rounder doesn't hurt too much.
Bit of an odd roster that we have shaping up here with plenty of LW and 5-6-7 D. Not sure if the plan is to collect extra players to create more competition in camp, or perhaps bigger moves coming...

Perhaps we deal one of our defensemen and then end up ahead in assets.
But yeah as a stand-alone move I'm not big on it. Our defense was already too small so adding a 5'9 guy isn't a step forward IMO.
Hopefully Feaster will have some more moves on the defense before next season begins.

I would have preferred the Flames to acquire and sign Alzner.
Also a local kid.
Do it Feaster.
