Agreed. Immediately upon retirement, hang the jersey, do the send off, let Kipper spend the next decade relaxing.

I agree that Kipper is done, but the Flames should use the Kipper cap hit for reaching the cap floor if needed be.

Flames will be fine. They still have to give money to RFA's and Ramo. I also presume that there will be a new player in flames uniform next season through trade or UFA.

Even though it's expected, it's crazy for me to think of the Flames without Kipper. One of the greats for sure.

If they can convince Kipper to play for them?
Should get more than that for a proven NHL goaltender, who is under contract.
Not a first rounder though, but possibly a second round pick.

I think $34.9M is actual salary. By my (vey quick) calculation, it looks like the cap without Kipper would sit at $40,291,250
Backlund, Brodie, Butler, McGrattan, Cundari, Carson?, and one of Ramo/Berra probably add something in the $10m range in total.
If the #6 overall makes the team, that would be $3.775M as well
On the minus side, Tanguay and/or Cammalleri would have a big impact

Best wishes to the greatest goalie that ever wore the Flaming C. Some highlights for me include:
-Kipper gets traded for a 2nd rounder. The Herald proceeds to run a story the next day called ''Mikka who?'', where I believe it was Doughboy who slammed Sutter for wasting a 2nd rounder on a nobody. Crow was eaten for the next 10 years.
-Of course the cup run in '04. IMO Kipper should have won the Conn Smyth win or lose.
-Kipper's fantastic season in 05-06. The Flames are the 3rd worst offensive team in the league, yet #1 in GAA. Kipper puts up a season for the ages, winning the Vezina, Jennings, 1st team Allstar, and a Hart nomination.
-Kipper plays lights out in the 06-07 series versus Detroit. One of the most spectacular displays of goaltending I've ever seen. I remember Pierre Mcguire was ice level doing commentary and he said that the Flames team looks scared and absolutely terrified playing the Wings and Kipper was the sole reason we won 2 games.
-I remember a game a couple seasons ago where it was a 5-0 shutout for the Flames at the dome. The crowd chanted his name for what seemed like the entire 3rd period.
It will be incredibly weird watching the Flames without Kipper. But thanks of the memories!

If he does retire, do the Flames get dinged with a cap recapture penalty on his contract?
CBA gurus?

Age has nothing to do with cap recapture, I don't think.
