If the Coyotes stay in Phoenix you would have to think Seattle becomes a real temporary option for the Flames.
Discussion was already happening with the City so you would have to think it would be an option.

Saskatoon seats 15,000 at CUC. Hosting a Flames pre-season game again this year. That would make the most sense.

Don't underestimate the effect of a highly motivated cleanup effort. If federal money pours in like it would in the US, there will be lots of economic considerations and keeping the flames playing in Calgary next season HAS to be considered critical to the local economy.
I put my money on the Saddledome seeing the majority if not ALL of the home games next season. I got no evidence to back that up, but I've seen many fast-tracked repair projects for US disasters finish well ahead of schedule or even anyone's wildest dreams when construction crews are given financial intensives to finish on time or early.
HEARTBREAKING the news of lost memorabilia. Photographs, banners and paintings can be repaired.
Best of luck to the citizens dealing with THEIR property nightmares. As much as you all love the Flames and the Saddledome, most important is the well being of the citizens.
GOOD LUCK ALL!!!

Calgary/Lethbridge Flames? 7100 is better than 0...
I could see some games being split between Red Deer, Lethbridge and Saskatoon, and some local places in Cgy should it come to that point. But it very well could be ready to go. We really dont know anything about extent of damage, or how to repair it at all.

There's also the possibility of an extended road trip to start the season if the building isn't ready for the start of the season.
But what would happen to the Hitmen if the Saddledome isn't ready in the fall? Doesn't the WHL start earlier than the NHL?

And if Phoenix does move to Seattle, then voila, Jobing.com has a new tenant.

If we needed more time, I could see the NHL putting us on an extended road trip to start the season.

Got a text from Steinberg, passing along confirmation that water is definitely in the seating bowl.

So. That new arena project needs to be pushed into extra gear now...

I definitely have to echo this. While it will certainly be a big job I think people are getting a bit ahead of themselves with the talk of games never being played in the Dome again. I have no knowledge of the ins and out of this stuff, but having been through back to back hurricanes I've seen some pretty ridiculously damaged infrastructure back up and running in surprisingly quick times. It won't be a quick fix, but hopefully the damage is such that repairs can be done before the season and this just becomes an interesting entry in the history of the Dome.

Maybe we should wait a couple of weeks before we start talking about moving the Flames for next season...

The NHL needs to send the team on the road for the first part of the season. Hopefully fans can handle a twenty game home stand late in the season. Worst case scenario, I would like to be the first person to welcome the Calgary Flames to their temporary home in Salt Lake City.

that is the other thing
if you are the Flames and you get an insurance claim for this
do you use most of it on a new arena? or to clean up the dome?

The biggest issue might be long lead items if the ice plant is fubared. Some of that equipment is likely made to order, and in oil and gas we have to wait 52 weeks for pumps ect.
