According to a website. Turner Valley Gas Leak.
The gas is only very slightly sour with an H2S content of approximately 2.5%.

So could be a lot worse but still bad for immediate area surrounding.

2.5%? Slightly sour? Must be missing something...

*nods* Yeah I was thinking go south down to Hwy 3 and through the Crowsnest but they've called a state of emergency there as well and Blairmore is flooding, so that route is hooped now too.

You don't have to go all the way to Jasper... north on 93 to Sask Crossing then east through Rocky Mountain House will do the trick.

2.5% sour is 25,000 ppm - at 1,000 ppm, immediate unconciousness and death or permanant brain damage will occur unless rescued. So yeah, 2.5% and "slightly sour" doesnt add up.

They built that city on a horrible, horrible flood plain and have learned from past mistakes.

No I understand, that bulletin just caught me off guard.

Oh right. Forgot about that route.
Heard from my brother in Okotoks. He and my other brother in Calgary are trying to get in touch with our mom but not having any luck. She hasn't returned calls from the landline or her cell phone and texts aren't being returned either. What a cluster###### - or is this where clusterfata is appropriate?

City of Calgary officials are saying that flooding in the city may be worse than 2005. Evacuations likely within the city later on today or tomorrow.

My parents live in TV, (close to the gas plant), and they were let back into their house around 15 min ago - said the H2S leak had been taken care of.

Depending on how sour the line is, what size it is, and how long it is (or how long between shutdown valves), that seems understandable.
Anything that leaked (gas) has dissipated by now and if they've shut off the source there's no further cause for concern (other than why did it leak).
