If you're looking at a Venza, look at an RX350 as well. I drove both and aside from premium fuel requirements the RX was better in every way. If you're buying used, the price difference is a few K.

That said I also love Subaru for functionality. I just feel that if you're on a long drive you want a comfortable cabin to spend that time in.

I actually did look at the RX350 but found I preferred the roomier interior of the Venza, for what its worth. Full sized adults can actually ride in the back without the "I gotta get out of this car" feeling.

As I get older I find I have put a premium on comfort and amenities. Anything to make my commute feel shorter.

If you're frequently driving with more than 2 adults in the car I can see that criticism of the RX. I didn't recall the Venza's back seat being much roomier but I'll take your word (my rear seats are vacant or folded down 95% of the time).

I really like what I've read and seen of the new Jeep Cherokee. One thing is that I wouldn't consider buying a SUV in Canada without 4 wheel drive. The basic Cherokee 4x4 has 4 driving modes: Auto, Snow, Sport and Sand/Mud. I like the ability to have a choice where it's set up for the various situations. In Sport mode it gives a 40/60 split from front to rear, so it should be pretty good on mountain curves.

Sold my Ralliart Sportback (here ;D) because we just had our first kid and wanted to get something more family friendly as a second vehicle... But let me ask those who have a family? Do I need to have 2 family ready vehicles? We already have a double cab truck and we are looking at upgrading it to a crew-cab when the 2015 F150's come out. I was thinking I could have a bit of fun with my grocery getter in town.

Test drove several SUVs and also some family sedans but I am honestly leaning towards a 5-door GTI as I've owned 2 Golfs in the past and they were pretty fun while still being somewhat practical.
Deposit in April...delivery in January. It's long. Zero chance at a 2015, so that Jan delivery is a 2016. I'm hanging everything on the hatch being able to hold my hockey bag and/or clubs.

Only reason is the wagons in N.A. suck ass. Only decent one is the Volvo V60. But the Macan, depending on options, is only a "bit" more

It's only a "bit" more than a loaded X3 or a basic X5. Still it's a Porsche so prepare to spend a lot of time at the dealership for service. At least you can to drive their demos.

Anyone wanted to comment on the new Forester? Is it fun to drive and tossable?

Just stopped by the Ford dealership to take a look at the Explorer. ended up taking it out for a quick drive as well.

Very roomy inside. almost too roomy. There is a strange gap between the seat and the door, it's probably 2" farther than it should be. Maybe it is for really obese people or something?

Which porker did you have a bad experience with?
Curious as a 911 is my next vehicle.

It blows the doors off an X3, Cayenne is too big. Better comparison might be X4. What makes you say lots of service time? Sure it's a new model, but likely no diff than any other Porsche/Audi/BMW.

No Forester I've ever driven is tossable. Underpowered and 4 speed boxes (my current '10 XT till Macan shows up). New ones have much better gearing, still not enough jam.

A coworker owns a Porsche and he is constantly having issues with it. Porsche recently recalled all the 911 engines. The quality in Porsche has gone down quite a bit the last few years yet people buy them for the name. I always laugh when my coworker starts complaining about how expensive his maintenance costs are knowing he knew before buying how bad they are but wanted something "flashy"

The GT3's account for less than 10% of 911's sold.

Definitely concerning though, as 911's are the generally the most robust, and dependable of the high-performance car market. As well, they're one of the few cars, that can be an investment.

While, I don't think Porsches are as bullet proof as they were in the 70s/80s, they are still extremely reliable cars. It's actually one of the things I like about them the best...they tend to more over engineered than a lot of their German counterparts. Anecdotally, in my 3 years of ownership, I have yet to have a non-maintenance reason to take it in to the shop.

Although with VW buying them out and them trying to attract a bigger market share by going downmarket, I wonder how much longer that will be the case. The Cayennes are definitely the least reliable of the bunch, and they are the most mass-market.

Oh and my obligatory plea... if you buy a Porsche, please buy a sports car (911, Boxster, Cayman, 928, 944), not an effin crossover made for brand-whores.

Hahaha 785 engines being recalled is a pretty small sample size to use to say all Porsches have issues.

Out of any similar brands I'd say they're one of the least maintenance intensive vehichles out there, and is in fact one of the major reasons I'm a fan. In 6 years and over 50,000kms I've had one minor issue that wasn't basic wear and tear. I can't say the same about any other vehicle I've owned.
