I think that's what he's getting at.
Torts is already unlikeable. Torts in a Canucks windbreaker...?

"I think it's come to the point with me where I'm kind of being defined as 'that lunatic,' not only on the bench, but also after games with media," he said. "I don't want to be defined that way, but I do make my own bed in that type of situation and I need to make some corrections, I need to make some adjustments in that part of it."

Cant wait for the Canucks first losing streak and see Torts blow up cause he has to do a q and a with the media. Most over rated coach.

oh and two players who basically live in the dirty areas (corners/behind the net) and are always accountable publicly in the media and with fans are soft and will be made to cry by a coach they pushed to hire
|
Those are their dirty areas. They certainly aren't the dirty areas. Torts' would no doubt cringe at the Sedins' diminutive playoff style.
Now, if the Sedins talked to Torts and said, "you know John, we don't want to be known for what we've done in the playoffs in recent memory. Frankly, we want to step it up, and if that means shooting lanes, in front of the net, not backing down from physical challenges by dwarfs, then so be it, whatever it takes. We think you are the man to get us to play playoff hockey and we know you are not going to be easy on us." Then maybe this is a good hire.
It also hinges on Torterella switching up his systems that he used in New York and finding something that is, you know, effective.
Those are two pretty big ifs, and it is a questionable hire because of that. So yes, that is pretty much the thread so far.

Did anyone else hear Torts say Iggy was there too when he listed players he met?
Is there a player on the Nucks that has a close sounding nickname to iggies?

Torts on Sedins: "They're going to kill penalties. And if they're going to kill penalties, they're going to block shots." #Canucks

Proof right there that Fonzie is the anti-AV.
Just about the first question Vigneault publicly mused about when he joined the Canucks was - "Why on earth put your best two offensive players on the penalty kill? Why not save their energy for generating offence?"
So much for micro-management of offensive zone, neutral zone and defensive zone starts in Vancouver.

I think Torts will be good for that team in the short term.
Going to require a huge commitment from the team though, they've been playing AV hockey for awhile. Tortorella demands a physical toll from his player.

A 5 year deal for Torts?
What are the odds he last that long?

He's got a 5 year deal! This is definitely about more than this year. One and done with the Sedins?
I actually came away relatively impressed with Torts. I really got the sense that he is a genuinely nice guy and very down to earth. He talked a big game but that stuff is all scripted to the most part. Talk is cheap anyways, results are what matter.
He talked a lot about toughness, being more stiff to play against. Not in throwing hits and fighting but in winning boards battles, taking the hits to make plays, fighting for time and space. A lot of the things the Canucks don't do.
One way or another it is going to be an interesting year in Vancouver for hockey.

Very low, I'd imagine. Wonder what the average coaching tenure is in the NHL.

Last season
Richards/Nash/Stephan all close to or above 60% O zone starts, Burrows and the Sedins were all 60-66%

If Tortorella sticks to his current system and the Sedins, who register points on two-thirds of the goals they are on the ice for, lose two offensive zone starts per game, that could mean a loss of two points between them over 82 games.
Vigneault's zone-matching philosophy is a sound one: Give your best offensive players an advantage by starting just a few feet from the opposing netminder. However, it appears to bloat merely shot volume, not goals and assists.
