I don't really get the sentiment that Iginla's play was bad this post season. Until the Boston series he was a PPG forward, playing left wing most of the time.

Just a test of the moral fiber of the CP community. Personally I love Iggy, was cheering hard for the Pens, and also would have chose Pitts in a heartbeat. Reading nonsense gives me a strange satisfaction.

I don't think its so much bad, as it is that we still think of Iginla as our superstar game-breaking forward, and in reality, he's 35 years old. Some of us still think about how he drove to the net with 2 guys on his back in 2002 or "the shift" in 2004, but he's not that guy anymore.

I get that he's not at the same level he was 10 years ago, but my point is that I think he was misused in Pitts and still put up decent points.

He should've picked the '77 Canadiens.

There is not only a logical view of likelihood of success, but also an emotional investment. He obviously recognized Boston as good, and it is a coin toss, with personal biases. Reasonable. Nobody saw Pitt being stymied by Boston as they ended up being.
Come on. This place is getting silly.
|
Who said anything about Iginla being a passenger? I said that the Penguins were looking for someone who play give and go with Crosby and Malkin and convert their passes. That's something that Iginla does well. Iginla is still a quality sniper and at this point in his career, he's a great fit for at team that doesn't require him to be the star, create offense, or have much in the way of defensive responsibilities.
I don't know why you found the idea that Iginla would choose a team based on expected play style to be silly. Players choose teams based on playing style all the time. A lot of pure offensive players despise playing in a defensive system, that's a fact. Players like to score goals and they like to score easy goals. The Penguins are much more free-wheeling than the Bruins and the Penguins are a high powered offensive team. Iginla is a goal scorer and not really a two way player who likes to grind it out. Why would it be silly to prefer Penguins' style of player over the Bruins? For a guy like Iginla at this stage in his career, floating around waiting to convert on a beauty pass from Crosby is likely much more fun than grinding things out on a Bruins team.

....and what if Boston loses the cup to the Hawks? Lets not forget Boston won in overtime vs the Leafs in game 7 of the first round, that game could have been anyone's. Why are we so caught up on if iggy chose the right team?(other than the fact that the Flames may have gotten a better deal out of it, but who knows...) regardless, his era is over, time to move on.

Good junior coach Absolutely but nothing more

Per Wikipedia because I couldnt remember the specifics
Sutter was introduced as head coach of the New Jersey Devils. [3] In the 2007–08 season, Sutter led the Devils to a 46 win season and a playoff berth. The following season, Sutter enjoyed his best season as a head coach, leading the Devils to a franchise best, 51 win season as well as an Atlantic Division title.
SO mediocre.
The Flames coaches have not been the problem. Iginla and the management have been.

LOL failed to do anything with a stacked WHC?
You think it was his coaching that lead to Getzlaf giving away a free goal or to stupidly knee the Slovk player?
Feel free to point out all the stupid coaching decisions that were made that season.
LOL at mediocre in NJ I am sure plenty of teams would love to take some mediocre 3rd highest point totals in their conference seasons.
