Outside of Iran, I don't think other Moslems have any influence. Iran marches to their own drum and belong to a different sect than most others.

There are plenty of examples of Iranians working to improve human rights conditions within and from outside Iran. Just because their efforts are not on the front page of Canadian newspapers doesn't mean they don't exist.

But it's not on the front page of our newspapers, so really, the moderate Muslims aren't doing much of anything. Only risking their own hides for the sake of their people. Oi.

I am very well aware of the human rights atrocities in Iran. I have as great respect, or greater-for those who advance their efforts. In no way am i suggesting that their efforts are diminished.

This issue of state sanctioned child brides is not limited to Iran and the support of shariah law, where this garbage gets its basis is beyond Iran's borders.

Id like to see universal outrage on the child bride issue, and im not seeing it to the degree i would expect. Opposition? Yes. Outrage? Yes. But at the end of the day more than a million girls are forced into this situation every year.

The criticism isnt of all Islam or an Islamic culture. Instead it is a criticism of a culture where pedophiles feel entitled to justify their actions through state sanctioned marriages. This culture of pedophillic entitlement is what has to end.

In my mind, the solution has to come from within other branches of Islam demonstrating a better way, and expressing disappointment and outrage.
