Giguere's post game comments were good. Criticizing the entire Avs team for a lot of things, poor practices, lack of focus, planning trips to Vegas. A lot of emotion from a veteran who's fed up with his teams performance.
Maybe Joey just had a simultaneous glimpse of his past and future career, having put in a stellar performance in another meaningless game as a backup on a team going nowhere, running out of time, never to be the starting guy who backstops his team to a Stanley Cup making a few game-saving stops in the final moments, but rather whiling away the games until he heads to who knows where, to get the odd few starts behind some better player until he either moves on again or retires into obscurity and opens a pitch and putt or sports consignment store in Syracuse or some other middling town.
Or he could have just been tired.

Interesting by Gigeure, given Duchene's comments earlier.
Hartley already pulling out the "Play it like its a playoff game"? Ugh.
Also, Hartley trotting out Stajan. Now, lots of people could've had a hand in stopping him from playing; its as if they never saw him wobble after the Bieska hit, certainly to throw him out next shift that game.
No idea about McDonald, all I caught was the last 5 mins of the game and saw this...he had some comment for Sven, though that was after Tanguay and then Kipper both seemed to be smiling extra when congratulating him too, so maybe there's an inside joke there...but was a weird sequence.
Remember when Duchene came out and said they wouldn't tank? They haven't won a game since he said that and just lost at home to a team that hasn't won on the road in a dozen games. If that's not tanking I don't know what is.
I have seen a lot but I have never seen both teams lose.
Nice to see them snap the losing streak, pretty much the only away game left this season that I thought they could win. Good to see the young guys get ice-time in all situations. Beautiful assist by Horak and nice to see Cervenka score again. Hope Stajan is fine. MacDonald's end to the game was weird, but his post-game interview was normal.
But that quote about Vegas? That will go down in history I have a feeling. But wait, there’s more:
“It’s not constructive. We have to find a way to get out of this losing mentality, you know? It starts with me and the guy beside me and everyone has to do their part.”
Then this, as Jiggy got even more red in the face with anger:
“It’s embarrassing. I’m embarrassed to be here right now. It’s not even funny.”
I then asked Jiggy if the true problem with this team is just its lack of focus or preparation or pride or whatever, and he said:
“I don’t know what it is. I’ve been around for 15 years in this league and I don’t know what it is. I don’t know why we seem like we don’t care at points. I don’t know, I don’t know we seem like, you know — some guys are fighting to show that they belong in the NHL, some guys are fighting for contracts. And it’s just embarrassing, the way we, you know, the energy we have in the room and the way we approach practices and the way we approach this game. It’s not how you’re going to win any games in this league. I mean, this is a team (Calgary) that we can beat if we set our minds to it, and every day is the same story. I don’t know what to say. I’m beyond words right now.”
[...]
A couple quick thoughts on this, but more tomorrow:
Jiggy has mentioned a couple of times how poorly he believes his team practices. That seems to fall under the heading of “maybe the team isn’t coached well enough”, as practice is truly the time for coaching in this league. Yet, Jiggy has not criticized Joe Sacco to me, even privately. I think Jiggy is just truly fed up with some of his teammates’ work ethic — or lack thereof.
If the Avs end up getting rid of Jiggy at all because of this sudden burst of honest, shame on them. He has another year left on his contract, with a no-trade clause. But I doubt the Avs would do that. If they’re smart — no jokes, please — they will admit: Giguere is right, and he’s exactly the kind of guy they need more of around here.
You gotta love Giguere. Seems like he's pretty much the only player on that Avs team that still has pride at this point.

Pretty amazing that some actually are so clueless as to think the Avs didn't tank that game last night. They weren't even going half speed. I can see being like the Flames and just generally sucking and losing games. But just coasting apparently not even giving it an effort in practice. They have a bunch of young guys / what's up with them?
I think the problem with the Aves is that they have become a lot like the oilers where losing is acceptable. You can have all the talent you want but you still have to show up to play.

A top 3 pick for us is highly unlikely with scrubs like the Avs and the Oilers in the league.

Well color me "clueless" then.
If what you were saying has any truth to it, you would then have to believe one of two things...
a) Joe Sacco is trying to get fired by coaching himself out of a job
or
b) The players care so much about the franchise that they are willing to risk their own jobs for next year by ignoring what they are paid to do in order for the same bosses (that will determine their futures) to be able to draft 1st overall....IF they win the lottery.
Also have to factor in JS Giguere's comments when considering this stuff.
So.....which one is it?
