He looks the same, he's just got the confidence to bury his chances. He's always been effective at driving possession, it's just that he has a hard time finishing and he also occasionally loses his mind and the puck with it.
His goal today was Gretzky like. Reminiscent of Gretzky's record breaking goal where he floated it in.
Yes, I just compared Comeau to Wayne Gretzky, he is that good!

The problem is that the point percentage dropped from .667 two games ago to .636 now in order to hit 54 points. Now we only need a 104 point pace the rest of the way based on an 82 game schedule. It's possible, but still extremely difficult.
We need the point percentage necessary to get down to .555 or so for us to have a realistic chance, which means we need another 4 wins in a row without losing, calling everything even and then getting .555 points in the remaining games (20 pts in 18 games)

basically, it's possible, but extremely unlikely, and that's just to get into 8th and getting our butts handed to us by Chicago.

Wet blanket time (and I'm NEVER this guy)
But is anyone else a bit worried that management will use these wins as an excuse to let opportunities pass by?
I'd love to make the playoffs, but more importantly I want to WIN in the playoffs.
Hopefully management recognizes this isn't quite yet a championship team, but man do these wins demonstrate that we may not be as far out as some people imagine.
A few tweaks here and there at this years deadline may risk our opportunity for a playoff berth this year, but spell a greater team next year. Hopefully they do the right thing
But more importantly: WHOOOOOOO!!!!

absolute trash
you are a liar if you tell me that they make the dance you wont be the first for a ticket to that ride
I know i will be and I am a skeptic with the best of them.
But I also reside in the camp of, they are an NHL calibre post season team that outside of california trip have beaten quality opponents
I for one would welcome the home town team giving us a taste of post season festivities, after all its a game, I do not doubt for one second any of the team dawning the C feel otherwise
F*** it what do i got to lose? another season of listneing to pessimism or possibly goin on the funnest ride of our lives
sign me up for the latter

I'm assuming that it's directed to me because of my negativity. I'm as optimistic as anyone, and I cheer them on just as much as anyone else. However, I put my faith in the numbers, because it's hard to argue with percentages and the calibre of team we would have to be in order to meet those numbers.
If we were to roll on the rest of the year at a 104 point pace, we'll be somewhat challenging to face in the post season because of the roll we would've been on to actually get there. If that were to happen, I'd be cheering till I lose my voice. The math, combined with this team's track record makes it seem unlikely. Add in the fact that we have probably the least amount of good prospects in the league or somewhat close to that makes me wish for the Flames to cash in the pie in the sky hopes that this team might actually defy all the odds and make it in order to address the extreme weakness of the team's depth in the organization.
I'd like to see the playoffs before 2020, and if we miss this year, and don't trade anyone, I don't really see how it's feasible that we return to the playoffs before then.

Exactly. If they make it, I'll scream until my lungs bleed. But the odds are we are not a championship team quite yet.
I want to win every game for the rest of the year, but the other part of me cringes at every W picturing Feaster turning down offers with the thoughts of "we're going for it!". If I had more faith in management being able to look at our odds realistically, I'd be much happier with these wins. It'd be more of a 'can you imagine how good we'll be if this is what we're doing NOW?!' than an 'oh ####, this could be our peak... with a vast valley ahead'.
With the strength of this years draft, the already shortened season and the fact that we've spent more of the year with a top 10 pick than not... this is an opportunity for the Flames to make a spash on draft day and re-tool with a squad that we can see from these games has the ability to win, and win decisively.
We don't need to blow it up (though if we do, we have potential to return a ton of young talent), but a few odds and ends moved for picks and prospects will still leave us with a very capable group ready to welcome in some amazing talent.

I don't think there is a championship team in today's NHL. Look at Pittsburgh and Chicago, both 1st round exits both of the last 2 seasons.
Vancouver and Boston, 2011 finalists, 2012 1st round victims.
If you say the Flames should be a consistent playoff participant then I'll agree with you, some tweaks need to be made. But there are no 'championship' calibre teams. Playoff positioning no longer matters, just get in.
The Flames could just as easily win or lose in the 1st round as much as Chicago could easily win or lose in the first round (ir)regardless of who either of them play.
Look at the stupid Oilers. Blow it up and rebuild with 3 first overall picks and they are nowhere near getting into the crapshoot. Full rebuild in a cap system is really dumb.

Seriously? Our chances of winning are just as good as the team who went 24 games without a loss? Come on, now.
Yes, it's nice to see a win, but let's not go down the path of delusion again. Remember, this team has yet to win more than 2 games in a row all season. 2!
People fall for this exact same trap over and over again. Hanging their hats on hope and convoluted reasoning after a couple wins. We need to go a quarter of a season with this type of play to even think we have turned some corner. For me, even if this team squeaks into the playoffs, nothing changes with the long-term issues of this team...the Iggy dilemma, the Centre problem, the D issues, they all still remain.
