Bah... sorry, just a bit grumpy this morning.

You do know you don't have to spend $400 on a jersey right? At the end of the year there are always sales. Last year I got an authentic for $100. At the beginning of this year they had the replica version for $67.
With the vast number of threads on this board talking about the on ice performance, it's a good thing you brought it into a thread about jerseys. I couldn't imagine being that bitter over what the team will wear 8 times next year.

Ken King, if nothing else, know's how to make this team money, and a secondary look is what they've wanted for a while. With the 30th anniervsairy, retros put that second look on hold for a few years.
Now, I am guessing, is time to bring back the secondary logo and look for something worn, as mentioned 8-10 times at home. It's then up to fans if they want to shell out to buy a new 3rd jersey, or any other merchandise with whatever new secondary logo they've come up with.

Those are honoring old jerseys before the NHL existed, you really stretch the obvious.

No those are "retro". Guess I should post the ugly Flyers jersey with number crossing uneven through stripes and a white name-bar, or the 2 (count them 2!) Penguins baby-blue ug-fests. The point stands that going retro IS a tacky gimmick being used to lure fans into spending more money on what is old is new again and to fool them into remembering good times of old while currently things are putrid. Or else then these are a beautiful example of honoring the past combined with the modern, from pre-NHL days.
(and yes, I LOVE these jerseys as a one-time event)
And even further to the point, $ven made an absolute statement based soley on opinion. If you are going to use that as your argument you just make yourself look the fool.
Very happy the Flames are a forward thinking and moving organization. Leave the tacky to the Oilers. They do it very well.

I'm not sure why you're getting so upset over whether someone likes the Retro jerseys or not. Maybe I should have clarified for you. When i said retro's are never tacky, the assumption is when I say retro I mean original 6, flyers, oilers, Buffalo, purple LA ones, devils, and caps winter classic Jerseys. Of course anyone can go back through 100 years of NHL history and say 'oh these are ugly, hence all retros are ugly' which is completely flawed. There are very few nice Jerseys in the NHL today that aren't a retro or have some hints of retro in their Jersey (St Louis third, Winnipeg and SJ being the exceptions IMO).
This is a message board, you're not going to agree with everyone but that doesn't warrant a freak out.

I actually think those Vancouver Millionaires jerseys are nice. Simple design, simple logo, two colours, they're very aesthetically pleasing.
"Modern" jerseys look like this:
All horrible uniforms. Too busy, too many dark colours, weird striping. Honestly, Lentulus, I know you probably think you have awesome taste in aesthetics, but dude, you have no idea.

You can't wear white pants after Labour Day.
Also, any team that switched to black should have to go back to original colors. Stop trying to sell black caps to hip-hop kids.

Interesting that this thread was posted now, it has been on blog sites for a couple months that the flames have a new 3rd coming.
I think it's great that so many people love the retro designs. My problem with brining them back is that we would be tarnishing their legacy with the team we currently have. The argument that people have comparing Montreal, Chicago and Toronto jerseys with the Flames is a sad argument. We are not an original 6 team, we got our retros from a design in 1972. Yes, we won the cup with them in '89 but I believe we should bring those back when we have a team that is more deserving.
I also believe that our current set of home and away jerseys are amongst the best in the league. The only people I have ever heard complain about them are here on CP.
I have been participating on CP with 3rd jersey concepts (mine are the graphite version of our currents) and there has been mixed results but, I am excited to see what the Flames come up with. I really hope whomever is designing them hasn't read a single post on CP because there is nothing worse than a design by committee. I also think no matter what the design, the Flames should have a different 3rd jersey every year. The more Flames jerseys out there the better.

I totally disagree with you here.
I'm curious to learn about your aesthetic taste level, what makes you the fashion police?

It's not just me. Bleacher report's review of the best and worst uniforms in the NHL:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...-home-uniforms
All the modern jerseys are in the bottom half. The old school uniforms are in the top half. Calgary is ranked at 23rd FYI and I think that's even a bit generous. Detroit is #1.
Also icethetics readers have Calgary's current home jersey ranked at 3 stars out of 5, the away is ranked at 2.5 stars and the retro is at 4.5.
http://www.icethetics.info/jerseys/calgary-flames.html
I know a while back, icethetics had a poll ranking the NHL uniforms as well and the retro was in the top 10 or so. The home and away were ranked somewhere at the bottom. Unfortunately I can't find that poll, so you'll have to take my word on it.

I spent the better part of the work week putting this progressive concept together. It didn't totally come out the way I had envisioned it after several brainstorming sessions, but overall I'm VERY happy. What do you guys think?

Well, no black, so much better than our current set.
Edit: is that a fire breathing orange peacock as the logo?

I know this is a silly idea, but can anyone with photoshop skills do a mockup of what flames jerseys would look like if we took the retros and just made the base color San Diego Charger electric blue? Keep the yellow and white around the crest and numbers. That would be a trip if nothing else.
