Getting us ready for war. Of course N. Korea is full of crap but as shown, I don't exactly trust our side either.

That video looks fake as well.

Rare sight, according to a lot of the stuff I've read, out of their airforce of thousands of aircraft only about 40 will actually get off of the ground, and most of those are the Mig 29's tasked to capital defense and some of their advanced air to ground SU's.

To be fair, that one is technically still on the ground.

It's almost not even about the weapons as much as it is about the people. No one really seems to know how dedicated the average North Korean soldier is. Will they go home like most of the Iraqi army, or will they fight to the death? Will they make it an insuregency?

I know that the strategy would be to bomb the heck out of them, but eventually I think you need to invade and secure weapons and resources. Leaving them destroyed and potentially in a state of anarchy would be a security disaster.

Based on everything I've read and seen, I have my doubts that they would just throw up their arms and go home.

In the event of this happening I think we can leave this part to the Chinese.

I can't blame the south for wanting their own nuclear deterrent. Unfortunately it would likely cause other nations to seem their own nuclear arms. Really interesting article, a little off topic but similar enough that ill post it.

Its more then likely that the Chinese would go in and pretty much slaughter everything that moves or resists.

They're not exactly known for their giving a crap about the civilian population.

The SK should just come out and tell the truth, "the USA have our backs with at least four nuclear subs off our coast ready if needed". We don't realy need our own.

A new North Korean propaganda video shows images of an imagined missile attack on U.S. government buildings in Washington, including the White House and the Capitol.

The article I posted while about Israel and Iran highlighted the fact that the US would be hesitant to enter a nuclear war and may not have their back as much as they say. In that case I can understand why SK would want their own nukes.

The level of trust with the U.S. that they would actually respond to a NK nuclear attack with American Nukes is at about zero within the SK government.

The American's know that if they were launch in retaliation that it would quickly go from a regional war to a much larger and more unpleasant conflict.

In the 70's and 80's when the American's had a much larger and integrated military presence you could argue what you're saying, but American military influence is on the down swing in the South who really don't require American front line troops for their defense.

I also don't think a Chinese occupation of North Korea would be the end of anything, but rather the beginning of a new cold war. As crazy as North Korea is, they serve as a buffer. If China occupied North Korea, it would only be a matter of time until annexation of the Korean peninsula was on the menu. China only knows one direction when it comes to these things. The ultimate goal should be a free and united Korea. If China takes control of half now, it will never happen... just ask Tibet.

I don't think South Korea having nukes would necessarily deter Kim Jong Eun's regime. In all likelihood they have probably envisioned doomsday scenarios 1000 times and whether Pyongyang is nuked or simply carpet bombed from the skies, their belligerence towards South Korea wouldn't change.

It's them against the world and they know it.

I agree, for appearances, China will roll in, kill everything, execute all of the party members and heads of the military and intelligence agenceies and industrial segments. Install a puppet government and re-equipt their military to modern standards then withdraw and state that they have restored democracy to North Korea. The one positive is that China will also bring in massive amounts of emergency food stuffs and doctors and all of that stuff so they can show how great they are on T.V.
