I'd say at this point his next move should involve placing his belongings into a box and walking them out to his car.

This is by far the most entertaining 24 hours I have experienced as a Flames fan since 2004.

Not sure how waivers work here, but how many teams would actually want to pay O'Reilly that much?

This forum is ridiculous. People say one thing, next thing you know we've got world war 3 over something that is FANTASY.

22 year old impact player? Probably all of them if he was attainable for no assets....
....which is what would have happened.

Curious, can you tell me what in your school applies to this?

And have to give up zero assets to get him? Probably about 30. Just a two year deal.

Yes I agree it is a desperation move but at least they tried. People here are complaining about the Flames not doing enough to get a first line centre. I am one of those people but with the Flames trying to sign O'Reilly, i am all for it even though they have to give a first rounder and a third rounder. Heck when was the last time any of the Flames own first rounder panned out?? The 80s perhaps. We drafted Niemisz on the first round and I am not even sure if he will ever make the NHL as a Calgary Flames player or not. Yes Baertschi is a first rounder but he is still a question mark as far as I am concerned. We haven't seen him play a full season yet. Flames current first round pick player was picked by another team like Dallas picking Jarome Iginla. So, I don't mind them gambling the 1st round pick and 3rd pick to get a top line natural centre. If they get another chance to sign on another young first line centre, i hope they do the same thing.

2 days after a thread talking about the Flames needing to address their center ice position the Flames tried to acquire the best young RFA center available. I commend the team for their effort but if we are trading now lets find another desperate team like Philly because the vultures are circling and the Flames appear very desperate to save their season.

Real options, if your familiar with them are exactly how these situations are evaluated.

Just becuase they are big words, does not mean they don't matter.
Real life means you need an education to understand any sort of valuation process.

Draft Pick

This Thread
Very interesting how things have progressed here. From Feaster to O'Reilly, there is nothing new but the same old bashing of the team and managment on the moves they are allowed to make. Has no one realized that the root cause of every bad thing which has occurred in the past many many years relating to the Calgary Flames has been the "Benevolent" ownership of this sorry squad??? Murray Edwards and his crones have determined exactly the way thing will be in this town and on this team and the fans are left holding the bag. They have decided to stick with Jerome as the favorite child is held by its parents for as long as possible, and then ends up with a scraggly beard and a gut sticking out the bottom of his Megadeth T shirt living in the dank confines of the basement.
I am not saying that the team should be blown up, but when there is only one way do accomplish the goal of winning a cup and that is Murray's way, there is very little latitude for Feaster or anyone else to accomplish what Calgary fans have been longing to see for many years; A COMPETITIVE SQUAD!!!!!!!!! Much like the Cleveland Indians of 10 years ago fielded a mediocre team in order to continue to reap the rewards of owning a major league franchise, the owners of the Flames think that putting a mediocre team on the ice will keep fans in the seats so they can make more of your money every year. The only way to change course for this team is to let the Hockey Guys Run It!!! If that means blowing it up; so be it. Trade Jerome, Kipper, whoever; so be it. Rebuild with the draft; so be it. Instead of complaining vocally, there is only one way to vote and that is with your wallet.
I thought the comment on Fan 960 yesterday said it all: Part one of plan; get McGratton in to protect good players, part two of plan; get good players.
That is all!

Let all your UFAs walk, minus Cervenka, who gets re-signed at a much lower value.
Draft high, go with a youth movement next season by playing Wotherspoon, Breen, Granlund, Horak, Brossoit and whomever you nab with all of your newly acquired draft picks. Give Backlund and Baertschi all the ice time they can handle.
Ride Kipper on his final year, and trade him when he's on a roll, and go with Brossoit/Ramo as your tandem.
This is pretty much what the franchise needs, but they won't do it.
