Islanders weren't below the floor when the deal was made, though, so what ground do they have to stand on? They're $9 million above the floor now.

I think Snow is a terrible GM and you don't often have the chance to applaud him, but that was a smart, smart move.

Yup, and now they can trade Visnovski.

It's the Islanders, not Coyotes.

Okay? everything I have read says that they were under the cap before this. Capgeek shows them at $53,042,156 with Thomas.

I don't think anyone can have sympathy for Thomas. He decides not to show up so the team ships him into exile. Who cares?

I feel no pity for Thomas
One of my favorite players turned into one of my more disliked ones. Big ego.

smart trade for Boston. 2nd round pick for a guy that isn't even wanting to play.
Shipping him to garbage NYI is classic Jacobson. Don't anger the old man.

This whole Thomas situation has been so bizarre. On the one hand, it's kind of stupid that a team is stuck with the cap hit of a player who publicly goes kinda nuts. I get the whole 35 year old signing rule 99.9% of the time, but in this situation it worked against the spirit in which it was written. On the other hand, I'm not sure that a team should be able to trade a player who is not going to play just to solve a cap problem. The whole thing is just so stupid.
Meh, good on Chiarelli to work the system. Hopefully that extra space is put to good use.

I can't imagine you can toll a guy's contract once he files retirement papers.

Which they will after he plays a couple games with them. It is likely how they got him to report.

I need a little help here with these scenarios.
2012-13 is the last year of his contract, correct?
Now that he is with the Isles, if he doesn't report, he is considered suspended, and when he comes back he will have to be paid his final year, correct?
If he was with the Bruins still, would he count against the cap until he officially retired or can the Bruins choose to cut him loose after a year?
If Isles do this trick for a few years, can Thomas report at 50 years old and 250 pounds and get his 5 million dollar check? Do the Isles make him GM at that point?

Hot garbage huh? I'd take it:
Okposo, Moulson, Grabner, Streit, Hamonic, Neilsen, Bailey, Joensuu.
And more so their prospects:
Strome, De Haan, Donovan, El Niņo, Nelson, Kabanov, Petrov. Even some of their mid level prospects like Czizikas or Rakhshani I wouldn't wipe my nose at.
Snow and Wang get crap, and rightly so, for the Dipeitro insanity but they have an awful lot of talent besides Tavares.

Wang should see if he can sign Manti T'eo's girlfriend to a contract.

Hey if the Islanders are still under the floor then they can sign me. I really don't mind not playing.

so Thomas counts against the Isles team cap; does he count against the players total share?
