The procedure itself......Yarg. I hear all these stories about guys barely feeling anything and going out and playing hockey the same day and I start to wonder if the universe hates me, because mine felt like I was having my intestines torn out through my ballsac. Maybe it just didn't freeze properly and I didn't say anything because I didn't want to feel like a wuss, but it was seriously one of the most horrible experiences of my life. I almost passed out, and Dr. Crouse had to let me lay on his couch upstairs in the waiting room until I recovered enough to drive home. I didn't get the huge grapefruit swelling like some of the horror stories I've heard, but I had some pretty significant discomfort for a couple weeks and sometimes it felt like there was something sharp in there. After a month or so it was fine - and the first screening gave me the all clear so the good Dr. did his job right, but wow did it suck.

How long ago did you get it done? So after approx a month everything felt back to normal? No complaints? I realize everyone's experience will be different but it's nice hearing some of the stories to understand what can be expected

I had it done in 2006. The worst of the pain/discomfort went away in about a week, but yeah...it was probably a month or so before it really felt normal again.
I have lots of friends who have had it done and had no problems at all, so again I'm probably just one of the unlucky ones.

I got mine done about 2 years ago now at Intramed by Dr. Crouse. Guy did a great job, but my body doesn't like needles and knives, and the procedure took about 20 minutes, 15 of those spent 'fishing' one incredibly defensive tube out for the snip.
Due to all the "extra" handling I got, the Dr. informed me I'd likely be more sore than normal for longer. The rest of that day and the next day, I was more than happy to spend couch surfing. Not really pain, but pretty sore/achy, like after a hard workout. Walking felt normal for the week after that with a mild ache that OTC painkillers dealt with handily. It was about 2 weeks before I felt "the urges" returning, and after a month felt pretty much back up to full speed.

But it seems a lot more simpler for me to get it done rather than having my wife go through an operation, are you speaking from a bad experience?

I did it with the Vasman almost 3 years ago, pushed myself too hard at work a few days later and had some internal bleeding. Nothing a quick trip to my GP and a batch of anti-biotics couldn't fix. Been all good ever since.

It has been 2 years almost since my day but now it appears I have a granuloma that gets inflamed and causing pain in the groin/abdomen. Been checked by the doc and ultrasound, everything else seems fine. I guess sometimes a second surgery may be needed. Any of you had this?

Just don't do it.
How many here were told to get it done by the wife?
You will regret it. If she doesn't want to have any more kids, she can get her own operation or can start taking birth control pills.
Take a stand for your rights.
If you ever break up with the old lady, you can never start over and have another family.

Haha, women can't force you to have this done. If you don't want to have it done, don't do it. I have zero regrets about it, personally.
If at some point down the road I want to have more kids I guess I will have to look at other options (adoption springs to mind). The fact is its a relatively straight-forward procedure with minimal complications. If I for some reason had another woman in the future and she was bent on having kids of her own she probably wouldn't be a good fit for me anyway because I'm done with that.

I have never wanted to have kids. I have known this for as long as I pretty much could. Should something happen and my current partner and I break up, I would find another one who didn't want kids (they are out there...) as the past has proven to me that having a partner who's on the opposite side of the scale from you will tank the relationship.

LOL, told to get it done by the wife? We're done having kids. I can have a simple procedure rather than a horribly invasive one if you're a woman. Pretty simple decision.

I haven't got it yet, but I completely agree. I have my 2, I am done. I figure the pain of another newborn is way worse than this procedure.

Gold.
I don't actually know any guy who was told to do it by his wife. If anything most of the guys I know that have done it (myself included) spent more time convincing their wife than convincing themselves.
The surgery that females do is far more invasive, and taking birth control pills towards your 40s isn't generally recommended by doctors. Females are in charge of birth control for a long time... many guys are happy to be able to take on that responsibility.
And to echo what Slava said – more kids with someone else? HA!

Wife and I are both on the same page about being done with kids. I don't plan on breaking up with her and last I checked she's still in love with me. It makes way more sense to have me walk in and out within half hour and have 3 days of couch time rather than have her go through an operation and then I'll have to take time off work to watch our son while she recovers from a much more intensive procedure. She even insisted she can get the operation done if I didn't want to but why would I put her through that if it's much simpler for me?

This is hilarious. As other have mentioned, there's a difference between day surgery and a surgery that will keep you in the hospital for a week and on bedrest for a few more. So in addition to being the only one who can take care of your kids for that period of time, now you have a wife who will likely go through premature menopause.
Your decision making skills are excellent.

Looking to get this procedure done soon, any recent recommendations with positive experiences? One of my co-worker mentioned Intramed Medical Clinic http://www.vasectomycalgary.ca/
Thanks in advance!
