That entire council is a gong show. Why do we care here what Toronto does with their Mayor? Good grief, while all of this is going on over there they even had time to take a vote on what they think should happen to an animal in the Edmonton Zoo? Good thing they took care of all issues in Toronto and need to start working on issues in other Cities now.

Well, he governs the largest city (~3.5 million) and highest profile city in the country. There are probably another 4 million people or so in satellite cities that are immediately affected by how Toronto fairs, and indirectly it affects the country as a whole. It's shortsighted to want him to be in power so that he can tick people off more. To want this for any community in the country is weird.
I really don't understand the attitude.

I suppose that if he does get re-elected and continues with his '#### you' attitude towards major projects that eventually it will come time for somebody to pay for them. There are many federal votes to be won in the GTA since the province of Ontario wont be able to afford them and the city will be begging for help.

From now on I'm gonna read moon's posts in Carrol O'Conner's voice.

It is not like he is such a terrible mayor that he is going to run TO into the ground.
Even some of his haters have said he has done some good things for the City during his time as mayor its just that he also does some incredibly stupid things as well.

I almost want him to have a crushing victory in the election, just to cram it in the face of the people that used the courts to get him out.

Did you read the Torstar article? Those people using the courts repeatedly tried to save him from himself. The enemy here isn't Rob Ford's enemies, it's his own arrogance.
Read up padawan.

Oh I read plenty thanks.
Personally I think a Rob Ford revenge press conference would be epic.

Rob is his own worst enemy. From the driver thing, to repaying the money...everyone has tried to give him an opportunity to make right and he always refuses to do so.

I respectfully disagree with the general notion that Calgarians (or other Canadians, for that matter) shouldn't care what happens in Torontonian politics. I care about what happens in, say, US politics, or Quebec politics, because ultimately these things do affect my life. A well-run Torontonian municipal government is good for Calgary, because it helps set an example for other municipalities (a measure that it's failing on right now). Infact, this is important to all levels of Canadian government... it's important that politicians feel that violating codes of conduct will result in them being held accountable by the legal system and by voters.
On the other hand, it's also very important for Canada that it's largest city is makes tough choices about spending and shows a commitment to fiscal restraint. In this way, Ford is actually setting a good example in terms of priorities, though clearly some of his more antagonistic policies have overshadowed these positives.
But for me, the most important aspect is that Toronto should be present in, and infact should be a leader in any debates about the role of municipal governments in Canada, about how funding for cities should be handled. Toronto's absence in that debate in the last couple years is very unfortunate. The issues facing Toronto are not that different from the issues facing Calgary or Halifax or Montreal or Vancouver, and a Torontonian mayor who is a strong advocate of city issues on the national level is obviously a positive for Calgary.

(A) I'd wager about my entire life savings that he will NOT be re-elected.
(B) "Those who used the courts to get him out" - *rolls eyes* I guess the prosecuting attorneys and the judge were all in on the take here? He broke the law and you say "big deal, ignore it...."?

Fixed.
Toronto city council is a gong show. Now they're trying to direct other cities. They're hilarious, actually. And not in a good way.

Awesome, losing Rob would have sucked from a comedy perspective. Sure he'll be voted out the next election anyways, but at least we get a few more years of foot in mouth disease.

Thought most of the polls were saying if he ran again, he would beat anyone but Olivia Chow.

I'm not a fan of the man and I don't think he's a particularly good mayor, but I think this whole thing was a little petty and I don't mind that he kept his job.

Does not surprise me in the least that this was overturned on appeal.
