I don't see how it is better. They went for a crazy-ass idea, and can't pull it off, which is exactly what happened with Terra Nova.
Last Resort is also a crazy idea, but they're doing a good job with it.

Yeah, I think Terra Nova would have done better to do a few episodes under the "land of the lost" premise; surviving alongside the dinosaurs. Then have a group of people split off because they don't want to act all environmental, then we find out that they had an alterior motive all along.
Here we have the same thing; we are given a world that most of us don't see as being a likely outcome of the event. Meanwhile it takes us that much longer to learn to like and identify with the characters.

Personally I would have been much more interested in the five year period immediately after the power goes out and seeing the world go to hell than the 15 year after premise.

I remember reading on IGN, I think it was, that the writers purposely chose 15 years after to avoid all the nasty stuff that would have happened to society in the immediate aftermath.
Lame.

If you don't like the show, don't watch it. Life is too short to watch tv you don't like, much less having to hear other people complain about TV.

What if you don't like it, but you still want to watch it?

That would make sense, as the program is rated PG. By comparison Last Resort is 14A and of course the programs on AMC and HBO are even more adult.

It is a discussion thread and it is a new show. It's natural for people to want to discuss the cons as well as the pros to help make a decision.
It's not like someone jumping on after 5 years of Entourage and saying, 'how can you watch this garbage? It's Sex and the City for dudes.' (Which was my feelings)
But people liked that show, and it did well, there was no real reason rain on their parade. This is a different case. It's brand new and people are figuring it out.

Got around to watching this. Better than I was expecting, the show does not try to be too much intellectually and I'm fine with that. I LIKE that the story moves forward quickly, I hate shows that drag things out and dangle a nugget in front of your face for as long as possible.
The look of the show is, interesting. Some things I don't buy, it looks off, but overall they have done a great job. I have a feeling the show is one giant visual effect and they pull it off nicely. Will keep watching, not bad at all if you accept it for what it is.

Yeah, not sure how it will last. Horrid acting is not going to get it far. People want something believable in terms of acting even if the storyline is a bit over the top.

SO it is on tonight. It will be interesting to see how it looks after having watched the Walking Dead last night.

I was into this when it started but it's got that plastic sheen of network TV and the Terra Nova comparisons are appropriate. But no, it's not that bad, the acting's a bit better and the writing's a lot less cheesy (which isn't saying much; it's still cheesy).

yeah this show is rudderless.
Not even the sideboob helped.

Finally had a chance to watch this week's episode. Actually I don't have as much of an issue with the flask stopping the bullet. The gun was pretty small (like a .22), so while it still in unlikely, it is at least possible. I have a couple of other issues with this episode:
- The whole premise of the gun fight was silly. Who gives guns to people you are trying to kill? If I was going to die, I'd take some of the other bad guys with me first. And even if you are going to do this, why put more than one bullet into the gun.
- I also am really starting to not believe the Google guy's story. If you are too weak to defend your wife; toughen up. Ask one of the other people in your group for fighting lessons. Also if you are that weak; how did you survive 15 years? And is your wife really better off alone than with you? Never mind the flashback- didn't it show a truck out of control hitting their limo? Next it showed his wife having trouble walking; but that was disentary and not related to the accident.
And the bath scene shows how desperate the show has become. While I appreciate the view; it really had nothing to do with the episode at all.
I would like to see the Irish cops taking on a bigger role.
Yeah, pretty much at this point I'm just wanting to see how this train wreck ends.
