What percentage of Android users have the newest version of Android though? 85% of users are still on Gingerbread or older as of July 2nd, per Google.

that's because the vast majority of Android users have older devices or budget phones. all the flagship phones from the last couple of generations have been updated to ICS and will be getting updates to Jelly Bean. it's not fair to compare the Android update cycle to Apple since Apple only has a handful of devices to support, and they're all flagship devices

Or maybe it's simply because some of the providers drag their heels in providing updates? I have an HTC Raider. The match in the States (Vivid) already has ICS. Still waiting for Rogers to get their act together and provide it to Canada. This is a dual core device with 1GB or RAM. Where is my ICS??? And Jelley Bean...lol, what a pipe dream that is for a device that really isn't old at all.

I think the point is that the developer -> manufacturer -> carrier -> consumer model for update distribution has a long-proven history of being incredibly broken. Not just in delivery to the end user, but in feature-control and multiple levels of bloat.
That's not a knock against Android specifically. All non-iOS devices suffer from that model right now, except for BlackBerry. They used to be like that, which totally baffled the hell out of me. RIM is both the developer and the manufacturer, yet they still used to succumb to the carriers when it came to adding in crap from them and relying on them to distribute their updates.
I think I read (or heard?) something about Google starting to look into making their own devices though. Truth-be-told, I really hope that's accurate. The more companies that switch to the developer -> consumer model, the better off we'll all be. The less the carriers are involved at any stage in the process, the better.

My concern is more for the developers, who are getting hamstrung in their ability to take advantage of new API's and features in the OS if the majority of the user base can't/isn't keeping pace on the OS front.

Anybody know if the different models of the S3 take different batteries?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung...Model_variants
I've got the SGH-T999 model for Wind and most of the decent Ebay sellers are advertising the battery for the GT-I9300.
I've gotta assume they're the same, but I'm not 100% sure.
Apparently the S3 battery works in every model.

I second that! I'm playing NHL Open Ice 2 on 2 for PSX on mine! Sure, it's a simple flawed game, but oh the memories! "Fluery to Zalapski...Scores! He's on fire!"

I have been playing through Super Metroid...which might be my fav game of all time. Even with poor controls on the touchscreen, I will finish this once again.

Anyone mod theirs yet over at XDA? I tried two different ones without success. I might have to wait until the community is more mature and then I can get rid of the bloatware (ie Rogers apps, not being able to delete Yahoo from my bookmarks ).

Had an idea!

You just need to root it, and install Titanium Backup to get rid of the bloatware.

Anybody have a case they would recommend to me?
I had a commuter otterbox for my Captivate. It made the phone a bit too big for my liking. I really can't imagine being happy with having the extra size on a phone that I already feel is a little too big.
Any suggestions for a slim yet durable case? I do imagine that those 2 are inversely related.
Thanks

I just ordered/received this one:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
It's actually really good quality for how dirt cheap it is. The back is scratch resistant and the bumper sides/corners don't add much bulk. It's got the buttons/holes in the right places for the camera/plugin's and for the price and S/H to Canada, even if you absolutely hate it, you're only out maybe $7.
