We could have had a London Calgarypuck convention from all the people saying they just got back!! We left London a week ago.

I couldn't even get a seat on my flight back because it was overbooked. I had to wait another day and they gave us $900 back for each ticket. I wonder why theres such a large exchange of people between Cal and London right now.

I know two other Calpuckers who just got back from merry ol' England, I won't "out" them however.
How's the rain going guys? I can't beleive the difference from the South to the North of Alberta. I haven't seen a drop of rain in two weeks, barely a cloud in 10 days.

It actually hasn't rained in a few hours. It's 10 degrees now so that's not good but you can actually go outside now without a bathing cap.

Nope, but it might have been a friend of mine who sent me the photos. These are some that were taken this morning on our property.
We had to bring in the cattle from out back (close to the river) to higher ground. They're all purebred show cattle so I guess it was pretty important they didn't end up swimming down the river. Luckily, most of the herd is down south on our land that backs on to the Oldman, but far enough aaway it's in no danger of flooding.
This is the hay barn out back, about 200 metres from the Sheep River. I've never seen the river get this high (not even the last time it flooded).
This is a ground fed "spring" that runs in front of the house, normally about 2 ft deep. Right now it's about 10 feet deep, and running up tha banks (the wooden thing in the pic is a swing that is about 6 ft high that sits on the side of the bank).
This one is out back, looking East. Taken from the same location as the barn photo.
I'm not too sure if it's crested yet, but I would certainly hope so. I was also down by the Elbow River this afternoon doing my lunchtime workout at the Talisman centre, and noticed a sudden, fairly large increase in water flow. Not sure what happened, but whatever it was it was noticeable.

Today at work we had 5 in of water in the basement on N railway st. The switch on the pump burnt out during the night and so when the water got too high, it didn't activate...
finally got to sit down

I dont mean to alarm anybody but there appears to be a large flaming ball suspended in the sky to the southwest. It seems to be generating both heat and light.

Gotta love the changing nature of news...
on CFCN:
5:00 newscast - "I have just been told someone may have been swept away by the Highwood River."
5:30 newscast - "A child was swept into the river while walking his bike along the edge. He was rescued."
6:00 newscast - "An old man was swept into the river trying to ride his bike over it. He was rescued."

I was looking down on the Sikome Lake area this aft and much of it is underwater . . . . all except the lake that is.
Lots of disaster gawkers in Okotoks, including me, . . . . some of the businesses downtown were flooded. Water looks like it is receding.

Took some pics of the Oldman here in lethbridge this afternoon. Flow rate at that time was 1500 m3/s. An increase of 800 m3/s in 24 hours. As of 4 hours ago, it's at 1830 m3/s and climbing.
Really does look like the Mississippi. Unfortunately I don't have any before pics, but a few weeks ago you could nearly walk across it. In '95, the water was close to the top of the cement pillars for the bridge.

Yesterday they had said that the water was 1.2 metres from cresting the Glenmore damn and it might happen in the afternoon. Anyone know if it did or not?

Golf courses have taken a beating here too. Valley Ridge, Wintergreen, Darcy Ranch, Cottonwood, and numerous others have been flooded or swamped. I'll bet the 1st hole at Wintergreen now requires a 350yd drive to clear the pond that has now crept out to the cart path...

BlackArcher,
I find it funny that you could get down to the river bottom when they have been stressing on the news that they have blocked off all access to the river bottom. My wife and I took a walk to see how high the river was last night and I couldn't see where they were blocking off access to the river bottom. Lots of cars were driving down to the ball diamond complex on the north east side of the river and there didn't seem to be anybody stopping them from getting there, or exploring.
And on an off topic note, there is no way possible the bullets could've ricoched from the gun range all the way to that house behind the school! The gun range isn't even pointing at the school!

I even ran into an Oiler fan in London. He was wearing a hat. I walked up behind him and said "ughhh... OILERS?" Before he even turned around to see who it was he said "jesus, of all places in the world, I even get heckled in England!!" We talked hockey for a bit, and he was acutally from Calgary as well. He was just starting his contiki tour.

Actually, I just tried getting down there and couldn't. The river was lapping at the top of the concrete barier where I took the last pics. Increased nearly 2 meters. And they are now ticketing people for stopping on the side of the road to gawk at it.
Too bad I have to work now, or else I'd walk down there on foot since I live close to the coulee.
On a good note, I got a great shot of a funnel cloud 5 min north of Lethbridge. Called environment canada and they didn't care.
And don't get me started on the firing range... what a load of bull**** that is.

Sorry to get off topic here, but I'm going to get you started on the shooting range.
Did you read the letter to the editor or whatever they call it in the Lethbridge Herald today? It suggest mproper use of the range. I found this on Rock106's site. Rumor Du Jour.
I think I found a bullet in my backyard once, but I wasn't 100% certain, so I ignored it and threw it away. There was definitely no damage to anything in my yard so I figured it wasn't a bullet, but couldn't figure out how that object got their. After the shooting range fiasco I am convinced that it was a bullet. Too bad I didn't keep it.
Ok, back on topic.
Cool pic of the funnel cloud. Based on the previous pics that you posted, I'm going to assume that you're a west-sider. Needless to say, I live relatively close to the shooting range.
Cool pic of the funnel cloud was that last night or today?
EDIT: the c an v are too close to each other. the word precious was change to the intended word of previous.
