Lived there for 2 years. Agree with you ten times over. Just as a little preface before my rant, I'm a suburbanite so when I speak ill of Evanston, it's actually not that I would much rather sip latte's in Sunnyside but rather that Evanston is the worst place I've lived among 6 different exterior Calgary suburbs.
Executive Summary:
Evanston is a community that people like Nenshi would never want to see duplicated ever again in the history of this city. It's layout was designed to squeeze out the absolute most revenue for the developer and so poorly planned that Qualico had to have bribed someone at city hall to allow it to be built that way.
More detail: - If it's even possible the homes are even more cookie-cutter than pretty much any other new suburb community
- There's way too many 'starter homes' that all are the exact same design and maybe in 3-4 different colors
- The streets are excessively narrow to squeeze-in more lots
- It's on an open plain where snow drifts are sometimes so big in the winter that it becomes an issue getting in and out more so than any other community I've lived in
- One two-lane access road (granted it's being expanded to 4 lanes, but still 1 s#$%y road in for that many people!)
- 3.5 km walk or run to any commercial development (I've actually measured this using the a run app on my iphone when I ran over there)
- The homes are poorly constructed (Even by today's particleboard standards)
- The 'parks' are either storm dry ponds sewers, High voltage powerline right of ways, or so poorly taken care of that the shale at the baseball diamond remains in piles for years with weeds growing over them

I lived in Calgary for the first 21 years of my 25 year life and I've been to pretty well every ####hole dive bar and pool hall in the city. I'm white, 5'8 and 165 lbs. I've never had a problem.

Yeah, most likely the bridge and tunnel crowd from Calgary decided it was time for a road trip.

Nah, I just get dino's concerns.
Or I should say I'm giving dino the benefit of the doubt. He/she just chose a crap way of getting their point across.
I'll never have to worry about my child being a minority because my kid will be mixed (likely a white kid with an afro). It can choose an identity and fit in wherever it wants.
I love a box of Smarties. All those colours look great getting along together. They also taste good together because they are all integrated into the same candy coated chocolate culture before they end up in the box. If you're moving into a box of Smarties, you can be any colour you want, just make sure you taste right with the rest of the candy.
For example, here in the GTA, kids get sent home with school notices in 5 or 6 different languages.
Some schools kick non-muslims out of the cafeteria during certain hours so those students can have an Imam come in and teach them bull____. This is public school, remember.
This is Canada. English and French are the only two official languages. Pick one.
Also, cultures that roam around in 2012 dressed up in a mobile tent are not of the ilk that gives Canada it's wonderful reputation. We are a Western Civilization. I don't think we need a sign to tell that to people that choose to immigrate here. If their tribal desert civilization, from the most undesirable countries in the world is what they want to conform to, then... whatever.
If all of you crying 'racist' want to embrace that, then by all means, gear up in your hippie dress and make a stand.
Though to be fair to those crying 'racist', I guess you can only go by what dino said, and he/she did say 'caucasian', so I guess based on that, and that alone, it can easily be seen as racism, which I am against.
I would have said "I don't want my kid going to a school that is dominated by children of parents who reject Western culture". Though even I wouldn't say that, because I'm quite sure there isn't such a school in all of Canada... though it's easy to think there is when you work in Brampton, Ontario every day.

I don't understand this whole needing people to assimilate thing. Why does it matter? It doesn't affect me in anymore if someone wants to dress in traditional attire or if they want to look like a twat from jersey shore.

luckily for me this is still a free country and I can live wherever I want based on my own opinions. People from different ethnicity's move to certain communities all the time to be around larger populations of people with similar beliefs. China town, north east calgary near the Buddhist temple. Yet I am a racist for wanting to live around people with similar beliefs

Actually if I looked like a twat from Jersey Shore I might want to wear a Hijab.

And your other posts saying you don't want to shop with "Osama" lookalikes were even worse than the ignorance and racism Dino has showed in this thread. Care to elaborate on those comments?

So you're automatically assuming someone who's white has the same beliefs as you then? Because if you lived beside me I wouldn't be opening the door on Halloween for your kids and I'd probably hold social events where I would invite my multi-racial friends.
