On the road, receive phone call from angry ex, convinces her to stop at 7-11 in Claresholm to talk.
Get to Claresholm around 2:45, angry ex catches up around 3. Argument outside 7-11. She drives off shortly after 3 and he follows.
Outside of Claresholm, he's following and harassing them, she pulls over and tells him to leave them alone. He pulls gun and shoots them all, followed by himself around 3:15.
Motorist comes upon the scene a few minutes later and calls the police around 3:25 (close enough to 3:30 for media).
I was thinking the same thing.

If the theory is correct, they probably received the call from the ex right before they got to Claresholm. The 7-11 is right on main street, so they probably pulled over for snacks/washroom break/gas. Ex catches up, they argue, leave....and he follows them.

From there they would have had to stop and he shot them and himself.

I knew him. I graduated a year before him but I started early, so he was my age ('91). He was mormon. Played football with him... good receiver. We were on the same bus, he lived one subdivision over. He was a really nice kid. Haven't talked to him since high school but obviously something went horribly wrong.

I THINK I remember seeing him at U of L in the fall of '09, I believe he was doing pre-engineering. He might have been in my microeconomics class or another, can't remember which, but I didn't talk to him. His older sister was in my Bio 30 class. Again, really nice, seemed like just the normal Lethbridge Mormon family, i.e., the whole damn city.

As cliché as it sounds, if you asked me on graduation day 3 years ago who from this school would be a mass murderer, he would be absolutely positively LAST on the list.

I'm losing it right now even just realizing I talked to, laughed with, played football with a triple murderer. My sincere condolences to ALL the families... including his.

Potato wedges at the 7-11. Seriously, they are frigging awesome. We stop for wedges every time we pass through Claresholm.

I went out for lunch with people at boston pizza in Lethbridge today and while a friend of mine was waiting for a table, two girls infront of her we talking about it. Somehow my friend came involved, and it turns out the two girls she was talking to were with them that night. I'm not trying to speculate any kind of story, as I have respect for all of the victims and their families, however this is what they told her. They had all gone out to the Balarney Stone in Lethbridge that night to celebrate one of the victims birthdays, and thats when they ran into Derek Jensen. He found out that Stepple was driving the three to the Calgary airport to go home for Christmas, and became extremely jealous. When Stepple left to drive them to Calgary, Jensen went home and got his riffle, caught up with them on the highway, and drove them off the road, with a horrific ending. It shouldnt matter about the timeline of this story, regardless of what they were doing at what time doesnt really matter. What matters is that 3 young lives were lost in a horrific tradgedy that should never have happened. I've already heard the story first hand about the RCMP having to tell Stepple's father he has list his only child, and it just breaks my heart, because something like this never should have happened.

My prayers, thoughts, and deepest condolences go out to the families and the victims <3

Who stops at 7-11 for potato wedges?

Its all about the chicken on a stick, my friend. That flakey piece of all white meat is literally the only reason I have ever stopped in Claresholm or Coleman, AB.

Details are coming out from the survivor.

Quote:
The gunman said nothing when he shot Shayna Conway.

The force of the bullet sent her crumpling to the road. He fired two more rounds, striking the 21-year-old woman, then began shooting her three friends.

Lying wounded on the highway, Conway looked up and watched as the killer turned the gun on himself.

She crawled to a cellphone, called 911 and waited.

“She can just remember screaming and yelling for help, and calling for Tanner,” said Conway’s sister, Courtney Crosby.

“She knew that he was dead because he couldn’t come and help her.”

Conway, 21, was the sole survivor of a horrific murder-suicide on a southern Alberta highway in the pre-dawn hours Thursday.

Quote:
It was about 3 a.m. when Conway was steering the SUV along Highway 2 north of Claresholm. Another driver rammed the back end of their vehicle, Conway later told her family.

She pulled over and stepped outside. That’s when she came face to face with the gunman.

Conway was shot three times — in the stomach, the shoulder and thigh, her family said.

Thats another question. Was it a rifle (easy to get) or a pistol? I own a rifle, and I don't believe they should be illegal, but they should be harder to get.

Pretty sure it was a rifle. Derek Jensen was apparently an avid hunter and was believed to possess a hunting rifle.

That account (from the survivor) is scary. She probably had no idea when she got out of the car. What a tragedy.

Could you imagine if this jealous bf's name was Mohammed? Why hasn't the religion aspect of this been raised yet? Because it doesn't matter what religion a crazy person is.

Not to pick a fight, but if the jealous ex BF's name was Mohammed, and this was in fact done in the name of religion, then there would probably be a party demanding he be excused and pardoned for his actions because it was authenticated/mandated by whatever fairy-tale scripture they believe in.

This wasn't done in the name of religion, though. This was done out of jealousy and rage. Although there are parties trying to paint the gunman as "not a villain," none of them are excusing him for his actions.

You've got to be kidding right? Playing the muslim card in a tripple murder?

Maybe they'd bring up his religion if there was evidence that he was a religious fanatic who believed women should be stoned to death of immorality (or in this case shot). Maybe that will still happen.

But why in the world would you automatically assume that if he was muslim that the media would label him a religous zealot?
