I don't think they use it right away. Most speculation is that teams will have at least a couple years to use it. With Bayless the only other PG on the team I can't see them letting go of Calderon right now unless another quality starting PG becomes available, and I think they want to see what Kleiza looks like now that he's supposedly healthy for the first time in over a year. Bargnani still has (shrinking) trade value, and Amir Johnson, despite ESPN harping on it all the time, is a useful guy on a reasonable contract.
Unless they're going after a big UFA, there's no need - hopefully they're not planning to kick the new CBA off by massively overpaying for one of the mediocre UFAs out there on the market.

It doesn't make any sense. They are having enough problem trying to land some good players on a free agent and they will cut a free agent from last season who signed up for 3 years.

They have plenty of room cap wise and really no need to amnesty anybody. Plus they can do it anytime during the length of the CBA.
New defensive coach might be able to get more out of AB especially if he is playing at the four as rumored. Plus apparently he has slimmed down in order to be quicker at that 4 position.
They need to grab a couple of guys to fill out the roster and I'd be thinking they watch and see which teams do use the amnesty thingabob. Haywood for instance would be a nice fit. Defensive center who Casey can build a new culture around. Plus Dallas has to pay the majority of his salary. All they have to pay is what they bid during the auction.

Big rumors coming out of LA tonight, that Howard and CP3 might be heading to the Lakers.

I would cheer for those 3 on the Lakers rather than the big 3 in Miami. But if this happens I think it would be the start of something very very bad for the NBA

CB4 is pretty good seeing as it actually refers to something, and that something is hilarious. I have no idea what CP3 is supposed to be referring to.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with it because LA could actually give back reasonable compensation to New Orleans and Orlando. Something like Bynum and Odom for Howard and Turkoglu; Orlando gets a good young center and get away from the awful Turk contract (which LA can afford to swallow). Assuming Orlando amnesties Arenas, they aren't in too bad a shape.
Getting something that makes sense for New Orleans would be trickier, but their roster is so bare bones right now, they could use free agency to fill the holes; gut in Gasol and Okafor, they'd have some great big men to build around.
At the same time, the optics would be awful for the league if they're still owning the Hornets and send Paul to LA. Hard to deny that there's a conflict of interest in them moving one of the best stars to the biggest market.
edit: According to CBS, New Orleans has no interest in Gasol. I don't think he makes sense for Orlando either, which is an old team that needs to get younger. So LA is probably just stuck with one or the other. And really, Bryant, Gasol, and Paul would have a great shot at a title for the next couple years, and then they can retool around Paul in 2014 when Bryant and Gasol are up.

fyp. CB4 was an OK movie, it's still a dumb player nickname. Even Bosh knows it, as he wears 1 in Cleveland.

Word from Doug Smith is that the Raps may be interested in signing Jamal Magloire. Magloire is slow, and a sloth, I know this is simply a filler year for them, but even at minimum salary, I don't see why he's useful. I enjoy Doug's column's and blog but man that guy can be such a croonie when it comes to offending the Raptors brass.

Really depends on what they are trying to achieve this year. When I read rumours about Chandler etc. my first thought was you have to be an idiot to even contemplate that BC. Highest draft pick possible is the ONLY thing that matters at all.
But you can accomplish other things whilst still tanking hard. Top of the list would not be having the worst defensive team in the history of organized basketball.
To get there and have AB as your stopper is something no human could do. Not even a combination of the 5 greatest coach's in history.
So how good a guy do you bring in to help on the defensive end. I would have thought Hayes was perfect. Right talent level. Magloire if he was the only center signed and they just platooned guys at that position is a real clear sign that it is all out tank this year.
Wouldn't bother me a bit if true. I want to see the likes of Barnes in the fold.
