Don't know how much more people need to see before they clue in and realize a rebuild is desperately needed. Watch youth, speed, skill, develop grow and get better or watch old, slow, dump and chase players progressively get worse. Wake up management. Enough is enough.

After December 9, 2011:
1. Vancouver (17-10-1)
2. Toronto (15-11-3)
3. Edmonton (14-12-3)
4. Winnipeg (13-11-4)
5. Ottawa (13-12-4)
6. Montreal (11-11-7)
7. Calgary (13-13-2)
Vancouver and Winnipeg have been hot for the past 10 games. edmonton has lost ground after a fast start. Toronto is still in the playoff hunt, but have slipped. Montreal and Calgary need to shake up their roster, as they have both underachieved thus far...

The Flames are arguably playing the second best hockey out of any Canadian team right now.

Unarguably against the worst teams.
Hopefully they can continue this little push against playoff teams.

Wow have the Oilers ever fallen back down to earth, but should this be a surprise? I tried making a bet with a chickenpoop Oiler fan friend at the beginning of the season that Flames would finish the season ahead of his overhyped Oilers, and the guy wouldn't do it. He then approaches me at the time when Flames - Oilers were at their greatest point gap (I think the Oilers were 9 points ahead or something like that), and I still made him the bet. Since then it's been like a 17 point swing in favour of the Flames.

Wow.
The Jets are 2nd in Canada right now. It is entirely possible that Winnipeg will be the only Canadian team to qualify for the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

After January 2, 2012:
1. Vancouver (24-13-2)
2. Winnipeg (19-14-4)
3. Ottawa (19-15-4)
4. Toronto (18-15-5)
5. Calgary (18-17-5)
6. Montreal (14-18-7)
7. Edmonton (15-19-3)
The Canucks, Senators and Jets had an excellent month in December, and are the three Canadian teams that would make the playoffs if the season ended today. Calgary and Toronto have struggled, and are on the outside looking in. The Habs have been dreadful, and the Oilers are in total collapse after a fast start.

The Senators have really surprised me. I was expecting their atrocious start to be the norm for them this year, but besides that they have played some good hockey. They are a team that is quite bi-polar that can go from laying a beating on the Penguins to ####ting the bed against the Habs but I think they will stay in this playoff race right until the end. I don't think they will make the playoffs, but I'm happy that they are doing better than I thought they would.

The Jets remind me of the Trashers last year, they'll fade down the stretch IMO. For a team that is "struggling" and on the outside looking in, Calgary is just one point behind the mighty Jets.
Other than Vancouver, none of the Canadian teams are very good and I wouldn't be surprised if VAN was the only one to make the playoffs. One in the East likely will due to odds and weak opposition.

3. Toronto (21-15-5)

Jets are currently 5 pts from 3rd place with a game in hand on Florida. 1 from a playoff spot, 3 away from 6th. huge games coming up.
Ottawa is scorching hot but I dont see it lasting.
Montreal on the other hand I see them rising up and making the playoffs. Price alone gives them a chance every night.
Likely no playoffs in Alberta.

Little, Kane, Brunistrov, Bogosian, Wheeler and Pavelec all under 26 and all with an extra year experience.
There is a huge amount of talent coming into their own. Might crumble like last year but they might be more prepared for the playoff push this year.
They have the crazy travel schedule against them.

Standings after February 2, 2012:
1. Vancouver (31-15-4)
2. Ottawa (27-20-6)
3. Toronto (26-19-6)
4. Winnipeg (24-22-6)
5. Calgary (23-22-6)
6. Montreal (19-23-9)
7. Edmonton (19-26-5)
The Canucks are on a roll, Leafs and Sens look to stay in the playoff hunt. Jets are rebounding after a disastrous January, and Oilers have been terrible.
