You know that Target bought all the Zellers, right?

Truth. Every single small town in Alberta has a Chinese and western restaurant. I was having lunch once at said restaurant in Consort. It was noon, and I was the only customer. The nice little old Chinese lady who served me stared at me the entire meal trying to decipher if I was enjoying it and if i needed my glass of pop refilled. It was unnerving.

Agreed.
And when you walk in, you get attacked even more than they attack you at The Brick.
Last time we were out and about, I walked in with the wife to see what was what and we had 4 staff members ask us if we needed help. Even AFTER they saw us tell the last guy no. Ugh.

Video Game Trader. Baffles me how they stay in business. All their new release stuff is AT LEAST $5 - $10 more expensive then at any other major retailer. And all their old/rare games are always priced at least twice as high as they're actually worth, and you can't tell me there's that many people dropping $100+ on old PSX games. It was a novelty to have a just video game store ten years ago, but with the proliferation of GameStop/EB Games now, plus video games available for cheaper at Wal-Mart/Future Shop/Best Buy, I don't see why anyone would actually shop there.

I call it the Mongoloid Grill. mmmm tasty 'tards.

Ha! I remember eating at the one in Olds.
Its funny because its always marketed as 'Asian Food.'
Well...Asia's a pretty big place, care to narrow it down a little bit? Like, where specifically?

Some of these little town places have the best darn food. If you are ever going through Stavely, they have the freshest, tastiest Chinese food at the Stavely Hotel. Use to be able to say the sme about the Warner Hotel on the way to Coutts border crossing but that place is NOT still open, well it is but the good Chinese food people have moved on.

I remember the Video Game Trader when it used to be just the Toy Trader that ran out of a hole in the wall on the south side of 17th, behind where Safeway is. Steve was crazy good to us kids as we rented so many Nintendo Games from him, so as I grew up I always got amazing service and good deals on lots of stuff even after he changed to only video games.
Haven't really done much console gaming in 15 years though, so things might have changed.

Im actually surprised that Pro Hockey Life and Hockey Experts are still both around (although I suppose they haven't been open that long).
I'm sure from Sept to March or April it can be fairly busy when minor hockey is in, but both are such huge stores, there is no way they can be profitable.
During the summer months its a ghost town in there with no less than 10 employees working.
I think that while we are a canadian city with huge hockey base, there is no way two big box hockey stores can compete. I would even argue that one alone won't last

+1 - "Tom's" in Turner Valley - you can order ginger beef, pizza, or a steak and baked potato.

The store is just a storage area for them, really. I'm positive they do most of their business online. All the storefront business is gravy. That would be my guess.
And yeah, look online at those PSX games. That's what a lot of the older stuff sells for. It doesn't have to be all people from Calgary doing the buying, but even if it was I would guess they would do alright. I started collecting myself recently, and I found I went their every once in awhile. Specifically I found them good for buying extra parts for the garage sale bargains I found.

How about Cash Converters? Ever walk into one of those places? Who ever is buying dual cassette boom boxes for $60 needs to get their bargain hunter badge taken away.

No way man, the Mongolie Grill was/is awesome. Just cause you suck at putting together a sauce combination that would bring tears to the eyes of even the staunchest food critic doesn't mean it's no good.
