Norms change. I am an early 20's guy, so naturally I have my phone on me all the time. If I'm out with friends it is normal to see all of our phones sitting on the table. Depending on who I'm with I'll answer most texts opr calls if I deem them to be important.
If I'm out with people who are my superiors (bosses, parents, etc..) then I generally keep my phone away but on vibrate. If I get a text Ill look at it when I have the chance. If its a phone call I'll see who's calling and if I have to take it I'll politely excuse myself. Although with the industry I'm in and my Dad, people from the older generation are generally worse for being rude with their phones (in my experience). It is impossible to talk with my dad if his phone is on him.
So just as long as they're ahead of you on the corporate ladder or important family members then you will show them respect, but otherwise you don't care?
What's an important text anyway? And how many of those can you get a day?
At first she kinda looks hot and then they had to give us a side profile of her face and nose. bad editting.
Haha I swear I'm the only white guy who actually has no problem with the beak. I got a thing for that exotic, brunette, Mediterranean look, and frankly 95% of them have it so maybe I'm just used to it. Either way I'm on board though, my buddies used to chirp me about it back in my single days.
Take your pancake a$$ed, pasty blondes, and I'll take the bronze'd beak & booty all day for the win.

Yeah that's what I said, I don't care....
If I get a text at a table with my friends, I'll glance at it, and if I think I should respond to it I do. If I'm not really involved in any of the ongoing conversations I see no problem with responding to a text. Or if I am talking face to face with someone and get a message that I should respond to I'll kindly say "sorry I just need to quickly respond to this" and then proceed to spend 5 seconds sending a text. There's a difference between sending/receiving a few texts over the course of a few hours and sitting at the table staring at your crotch the whole time because you can't be without your phone. My friends are welcome to tell me if they think I'm being anti-social.
And an important text is something that is relative to me.

When we talk about smart phones, we mean phones that allow you to browse, game, text, tweet, post and e-mail. Phones and early cell phones, could not do that.
Well I'm glad that's been cleared up.

i think you should lighten up, seriously. are you that attention starved that if the other person doesnt give you 100% of their time you are offended.
cell phones and their centric focus are the way of life, get used to it.
It's plain rude. I'm tired of people inconveniencing others because they're so important or their text messages are. This applies mores to idiots who are texting while driving. "Way of life" doesn't give anyone the right to be rude or stupid.

so you say its rude, doesnt mean it is. i wouldnt be offended if we were having a beer and you read a text. of course if you spent every minute on your phone, that would be annoying, so maybe we are saying the same thing?
you are offended if someone looks at their phone at any point in their interaction with you or just if they spend the majority of their time face buried?
hahaha. cue up one of the worst commercials this past decade.

I actually laughed at this commercial. Pretty decent ad really considering some of the other crap that's out there. I'll take this over any Tim Horton's commercial.
Yeah FU society! i went to harry potter last nite and not only did i let it ring and light up the theatre, i answered the call too.
hardly the same thing. i wont speak for others, but im not advocating talking on phones in a movie, clearly you shouldnt even be talking to the person next to you so why would it be ok to talk on a phone?

I'm in love with that woman who put the loud talker in her place. I'm going to try that. I don't mind people on their phone if they keep it down. Why do they have to raise it an octave. The other person can still hear you if you talk normally.

i agree that texting while driving is a no no.
I don't mind the odd phone interruption during a meal. I'd put my phone on vibrate and if a call comes just excuse myself and go elsewhere. Once can be acceptable but after that it gets rude. I generally ignore text messages at times like this.
And yes, these are my opinions. I'm entitled to have them. My wife says it's okay.

Exactly. I don't get why nearly everyone who uses a cell phone (or even a regular phone for that matter) has to speak loudly like they are talking to somebody across the room.
