So, a few days I joined G+ and I've liked it. I thought I'd share my experiences.
About third of my facebook contacts are already there, plus a couple of people who never got a Facebook account, so that makes for a nice experience. II think a large reason why I've liked G+ is because of the types of people who have joined; I seem to get a lot less crappy "look at this sill photo" flood and a lot more interesting, thoughtworthy stuff out of G+. This is something I don't mind. I think it says more about some peoples distaste for Facebook than their actual preference for Google+, but the end result is the same. Also, because of the same distaste for Facebook, a lot of those people are really using G+, or G+ and Facebook combined through third party apps.
G+ still pretty obviously not a ready product, lots of little things that need to be fixed and improved on, so I can't recommend it to people who are annoyed by that kind of stuff. A lot of functionality will propably be through other Google products, which is a little weird at first, but propably something I'll get used to. For starters, I've never used an online photo service, but through G+ I now have some picture of myself in Picasa, and I might use it for something else in the future. This is obviously a big part of what Google wants. I don't mind, but then again I have very little against the Google overlords. Others might not agree.
I'm hoping they'll make a separate event-thingie for G+ though, to have that stuff handled through Google Calendar would be way too impractical (for starters because it's not a very good calendar software) and right now event invitations the biggest reason for me to be in Facebook.
Something I feel is worth mentioning, G+ has I think the best feedback system I've ever used, at least for a casual user like me. It's the first time I've actually bothered to send multiple feedback messages. That's something that gives me hope that it might actually turn out pretty well, as they've obviously put some thought into the user feedback process.
