I'm not too happy with all the smurf forwards we've been acquiring, but this fellow looks interesting. At least he should be a star in our top farm team, Abbotsford, after all I think that was the reasoning behind drafting Fleury.

Default Yes send him back to DBQ

We will feed him home grown corn (you ever see the farm boys from Iowa) put him in the weight room and put him on the ice. If he goes to college, he may see limited ice time and less time to grow as a player. He may also get hurt if he doesn't have the weight on for hitting in the big leagues. We acquired a player (for this year) that was suppose to be outstanding from MN College. He never got the ice time as a freshmen and playing on the 4th line couldn't shine and came back to the Jr's.

This kid has a long ways to go.
You mean the kid drafted 104th overall isn't a sure thing and won't be ready to play this fall?

Shocking bit of news Reg.

so he's semi-committed to Northeastrn, but with their coaching change, he can change his mind

wonder if the Flames encourage playing in the CHL.

Apparently he signed a letter of intent to Northeastern so he is committed there, but according to the following link hes trying to get out of it go to a Division I college.

http://www.collegehockeynews.com/new...in_further.php

Quote:
Following the draft on Saturday, the Fargo/Moorhead Forum reported that Gaudreau would not attend Northeastern. Later in the day, a source close to the program said that the Gaudreau family has requested a meeting with Northeastern athletic director Peter Roby. Typically, this signals a request to be released from a National Letter of Intent, which Gaudreau signed.

Gaudreau, the former USHL rookie of the year hasn't made a decision, but sources say a pair of Division I schools are both in play should he be released from his NLI. If he is not granted release, he would have to return to the USHL's Dubuque Fighting Saints for one season, sign with Calgary or sign with a CHL club.
Obviously the Flames are not going to sign him yet, but found it interesting that if he doesn't get released by Northeastern there is a possibility he might go the CHL route.

I like this choice by Gaudreau, great program with a recent history of success.

Also that coaching staff has developed Nathan Gerbe, and Brian Gionta, as smaller players who achieved success in the NHL in recent years.

This guy will be quite the long-term project. Hope (for once) it turns out for the Flames.

At 104, the choice is either for grinders or undersized skilled guys. There aren't any large skilled guys left at that point.

The last time an undersized but talented Boston College graduate came to play his sport in Calgary, it worked out pretty well.

Maybe Gaudreau will be the Doug Flutie of hockey.

As a rule, I think its better to go for the smaller skilled players, as the bigger grinders are easier to acquire through trades and FA signings.

5'6" 137lbs at 18.
So if this guy rocks the gym and blows up to 30% more mass with less than 2% body fat. He might be 170lbs? To compare him to Theo in size is not nearly the same. Fleury had weight lifter sized massive thighs.

Can't play in the bigs and tear it up in a second rate league?

Well, there's a reason he was picked in the 4th round.
