there will a huge amount of casulties because of this quake. Japan does have great infrastructure to handle quakes but the tsunamihas delivered a big punch. Lets hope that reactor gets back online

Just heard a Nuclear Reactor core has lost its cooling power... Jesus that is NOT good news.

Hopefully Canada has already started sending troops over there.

Wow, they're saying now the tsunami swept as far as 10km inland in some areas, and entire districts of houses have been taken away. Death tolls are mounting by the hour. Still getting a lot of tremors, and the tsunami warning is still at high here - 9 hours later.

Canada has a 200 member Disaster Assistance Responce Team (DART), specially designed for these types of situations.

From what I remember, takes about a week for them to deploy.

A week? WTF? Shouldn't it take more like 2 days? Slackers.

Have a look at this:

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...quakes_big.php

It shows there were a whole bunch of >5.0 earthquakes in the same region yesterday and two days ago. I'm not a seismologist, but might this not have been strong warning that a major event could be imminent?

Where are you? Are you right in the bay or inland a bit? Can you see much from where you are?
